I thought this would make for an interesting discussion since so many people on this forum are fans of the shows. I personally prefer Boardwalk Empire as the story just captivates and the boldness of the writers is evident with the season 2 finale. These are surely two of the best 5 shows on television.

Boardwalk season 2 was a little boring if you ask me. I loved season 1.

Hopefully season 3 is better.

I prefer GOT by a wide margin.

Season 2 definitely slowed down but Boardwalk Empires' season 1 was simply TV greatness so I expected a drop off.

I picked Boardwalk Empire but it isn't necessarily a fair comparison only because the shows are different genre.

Spartacus vs Game of Thrones might be a better comparison.

In terms of writing, script, storyline progression, character building, and acting? GoT by a landslide. It's not even close.

Boardwalk Empire is pretty boss though.

Wat?

That's like comparing 300 to Gladiator.

Yes, both are worth watching, but they don't compare at all. And if you actually DO compare them, 1 falls incredibly short.

Spartacus is better in my view, more blood and guts, more sex, more violence

I also prefer historical fiction more than fantasy.

I also preferred Rome more than Game of Thrones.

Rome is a great comparison with Game of Thrones.

My post had nothing to do with preference, or what I "like".

Spartacus is everything you like it for. At the expense of plot/character development, and acting.

From a TV show standpoint it doesn't even come close to Game of Thrones or Rome in terms of Character Development, Script, Acting, Plot Progression, etc etc.

Spartacus isn't going to be winning any great awards any time soon, because it's not very good. It's just action packed with sex, and blood.. and more action. Fun to watch, sure! But doesn't offer much other than that.

Just like 300 vs Gladiator. One is great for violence and "cool" fights, but lacks much in terms of storyline/plot/character progression. Gladiator is a complete movie, which is why I used those 2 movies as reference.

Rome won several Emmy's (4 out of 8 Nominations iirc), and GoT has won 2 (out of 13 nominations). Boardwalk Empire has done even better than those two as far as awards go. They are all incredible TV shows, worthy of comparison. My opinion is that GoT is the best of those 3, but it's certainly worthy of argument. Spartacus vs GoT.. not so much.

I'm shocked even a single person would pick BE. The shows are in two different leagues, really.

Would we expect anything less from a Canadian? :laugh2:

I'm just glad HBO has some great programs again, there was a while there where they kept ending great shows without replacing them.

I really like both shows, I'm weird where I don't watch much TV besides news/sports but when I get into a specific show I get a little obsessive about it. I voted BE just because I love the time period etc., but I recently went back and re-watched GOT season 1 in anticipation of the season 2 premier so I'm really into both.

Spoilerish: I'm a little worried about BE without the Jimmy character for season 3 but we'll see.

I just want to know what Nuck does to Peg when he finds out she gave his land to the church.

Lol @ the "boldness" of the Boardwalk writers. I love BE but do you even watch Game of Thrones? Have you read the books? George R.R. Martin is brutal in his writing "boldness".

I am not questioning his boldness at all. I have not read the books but love the show.

I'm out on Empire. They shouldn't have killed off Jimmy.
