Tried to pick short clips wherever I could, but as usual, have to click into YouTube to see them because of NFL rights.
As an example, here are some obvious recent ones that cemented a great reputation:
Jason Witten - 2007, the Helmet Off Game. His first 1,000 yard season. Already becoming a great one, but the legend was his to lose after this game.
Emmitt Smith - 1993, the One Shoulder Game. Lost first two games with his holdout. Came back, Emmitt dominated, Cowboys won home field advantage here. Madden pimped it much better than ESPN. Emmitt on to be MVP, and Cowboys win second Super Bowl. HOFer forever after this.
Bill Parcells - 2003, 4th Qtr/OT Win against Giants, Game 2 of his first season
This was the one after three 5-11 seasons with Campo that fans knew the Cowboys were back in the Tuna era. NEVER would have seen this type of last minute execution from preparation and results (or as Big Mac calls them, the Mojo Moments) in the Campo Era. Best part though is the team believed it too after this. I also thought at the time maybe it was a breakout game for Quincy and AB to have long successful careers.... oh well.
Here is probably the most obvious bad example in Cowboys history:
Jackie Smith - 1979 Super Bowl against Steelers, The Drop
A HOF career for Smith before he was in Dallas, but forever remembered by Cowboys fans for this drop that might have led to a win in the 35-31 loss, and chance for 70's Cowboys to be on same pedestal as the 70's Steelers.
Tony Romo - 2006 Wild Card vs Seahawks, Fumbled FG Game
Maybe this is more NFL fans than Cowboys fans, but Romo would have had to win the Super Bowl after this infamous play to forever take away the choker tag. Felt bad for the guy, cause he was such a welcome breath of fresh air at QB after all the experiments since Aikman. And then could say the Giants loss in first round sealed his rep forever, fair or not.
