gawd look at our O linemen an tell me we don't

The Cowboys didn't get Unger, but they could have drafted Andy Levitre. Gosselin gave him to Dallas in his last mock.

Levitre has turned into a nasty LG for the Bills. NFL Playbook did a segment on him, and he was dominating the Steelers up front.

Phil Loadholt would be a much better option than Colombo, but some dummy decided to trade down and draft Robert Brewster.

While Colombo was dominated by Ray Edwards in the divisional round, Loadholt started as a rookie and blocked the Cowboys in the playoffs.

This all goes back to evaluating offensive linemen in the draft properly or in line with the rest of the NFL and evaluating your own current offensive linemen. Self scouting...

It's suspect for the Cowboys when it comes to the offensive line, so Garrett and Houck have to get it done, or it will not get done.

I have thought for a long while that our real issue is drafting guys and then trying to play them at their best possible position - by that I mean we take someone who played T in college and who most teams project as a Guard. We always seem to bring that guy in and start him at T. He usually fails at T and then we go into the next year's TC and we end up playing the guy at T because we have no depth there - he sucks at T and sucks if we play him inside b/c he's had no time to develop there ... then we have to cut him because he can't contribute.

If we took guys like Marten and Brewster and developed them as interior linemen, we might have developed them into something. Instead we always take the "homerun" approach -- they'll be a tackle or nothing.

Should the Cowboys continue their philosophy of drafting OL in the 2nd (or lower) then there is still some very good OL talent to be had in the 2011 draft:

Marcus Cannon - 6'5 350
Derek Sherrod - 6'6 312
Danny Watkins - 6'4 312
Benny Ijalana - 6'4 320
Mike Pouncey - 6'4 310
Stefen Wisniewski - 6'3 306
Jason Pinkston - 6'3 313
John Moffitt - 6'4 315
Demarcus Love - 6'5 320

Gabe Carimi may even drop into the 2nd, stranger things have happened. And many of the guys above are versatile enough to play multiple positions.

folks are on drugs if they think Pouncey goes round 2. He is really good and his brother, who was similarly ranked before the combine is already one of the best interior linemen in the league

Better re-think the drugs thing if you really believe Mike is as good as his brother Maurkice. Maurkice was an elite center prospect, Mike not so much. Even the best guard prospects don't get drafted in the first, just the way the draft works. Teams just don't like paying first round money for guards.

Guard prospects don't get drafted in the first? Really? Who went before Pouncey last year? Wait ... since 2000, 6 Centers went in the first. How many Guards did? 8 -- even subtracting the two who moved to T, we have 6.

So pretty much, you are totally talking out of your backside.

Interesting how you chose 2000 as your mason-dixon line. Perhaps its because with the advent of the spread, the center position has become increasingly more pivotal? It would have been more accurate to use 2004 or 2005, which has been identified as the beginning of the modern passing era. Of the 8 guards taken, 4 were hybrids (versatile/athletic enough to project to tackle). All the centers taken were actual centers. If you had just gone back to 2004 or 2005, there would have been more centers taken than guards.

2000 - Zero guards or centers taken
2001 - 2 guards (Steve Hutchinson & Jeff Backus) 0 centers
2002 - 1 guard (Kendall Simmons) 0 centers
2003 - 0 guards 1 center (Jeff Faine)
2004 - 1 guard (Vernon Carey) 0 centers
2005 - 1 guard (Logan Mankins) 1 center (Chris Spencer)
2006 - 1 guard (Davin Joseph) 1 center (Nick Mangold)
2007 - 0 guards 0 centers
2008 - 1 guard (Branden Albert) 0 centers
2009 - 0 guard 2 centers (Alex Mack, Eric Wood)
2010 - 1 guard (Mike Iupati) 1 center (Maurkice Pouncey)

Albert never played a down at G, neither did Carey. They were both drafted to play tackle. That's 3 guards vs. 5 centers.

Position Analysis:

Andre Gurode - Only Cowboys center to make five Pro Bowls and one of 26 players in franchise history to have at least five straight Pro Bowl selections.

Leonard Davis - His $6 million salary for 2011 could play a huge factor in his future. First year he didn't make the Pro Bowl with the Cowboys, snapping a three-year streak.

Kyle Kosier - Unrestricted free agent who many feel is the most underrated linemen on the team. His injury issues will always be an issue.

Montrae Holland - Still has another year on his contract. With Davis' future uncertain and Kosier unrestricted, the chances of Holland starting next season are solid.

Phil Costa - Versatile backup who was forced into action last season. Those guys are valuable on the roster, but it's unlikely he is viewed as a potential starter.

Travis Bright - One of the few practice squad players not called up to the roster last year. That stemmed from the lack of injuries on the line. Still, Bright has two years of practice squad experience but it's time he takes the next step.

In my book we got two who should be startring next year

Gurode - because we got nothing better
Kosier - better resign him

OT's
Position Analysis:

Doug Free - Restricted or unrestricted, Free might be their most important free agent.

Marc Colombo - Two years left on his contract. Injuries have taken a toll on his career; he's a leader and a tough-minded asset when healthy.

Sam Young - Not a high pick, but Cowboys have hopes he can develop into a solid player.

Alex Barron - Free agent, and possibly not in the team's 2011 plans.

Jermey Parnell - Former basketball player is a good athlete, but didn't play offensive line in one year of college. A work in progress.

Robert Brewster - 2009 third-round pick has battled injuries and his weight; spent season on the practice squad.

got one good OT

Free

Jerry its time to invest in some O linemen

Rob Ryan will FIX the defense and get additional players to FIT his scheme. We may even get Shaun Rogers to play NT and one or two other defensive players that Cleveland CUT recently. One or more could provide the necessary DEPTH for our defense at NT, ILB and other key defensive position lacking depth (and experience) at the moment.

Jerrah needs to address the OL in the early rounds in this year's draft due to our (unusual) drafting position of picking 9th in each round. Our 90's team had the BEST OL in the NFL and our D-Line had the best DEPTH and rotation as well. We NEED to get more younger and explosive at the Guard and Center position and draft the BPA OT in Rd 1. If we draft and upgrade our TALENT base in the OL THIS YEAR, we'll be a VERY DANGEROUS TEAM COME THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!

Hopefully, Jerrah will get us a BIG RB or two to help wear down teams and then HIT them with the BIG STRIKE to Dez or Miles going deep. This new strategy will also keep our DEFENSE more fresher and with Rob Ryan's scheme, I expect alot more turnovers (i.e. picks & fumbles) and more 3 and out by opposing offenses.

That being said, we'll need to ensure we have a PLAN in place to help our aging OL sustain the added minutes on the field due to Rob Ryan's defense getting it done (i.e. PLAN would be to draft young explosive OL talent who could step right in due to injuries and/or our older non-explosive O-lineman NOT getting it done like last year). So, we definitely NEED to get BIG and NASTY and YOUNG on the OL with a couple of BIG RBs to wear down opposing defenses and stay on the field LONGER (due to Ryan's defense giving our Offense additional minutes per game with turnovers and better 3rd down stops).

Trust me, NOBODY will want to FACE the Cowboys if we have a nasty OL with big RB's, big WR's, and Rob Ryan leading our defensive unit (especially is we're able to sign Shaun Rogers and rotate him with Raftilff at the NT position) and get more of Cleveland's recently CUT defensive players for depth (they were slightly older and making TOO MUCH money).
