I think he misread which Saints were auditioning placekickers.

George Frederick "The Grand Old Man" Blanda (September 17, 1927 – September 27, 2010) was a former collegiate and Professional Football quarterback and placekicker. The son of a Pittsburgh area coal miner, Blanda has the distinction of having played 26 seasons of Professional Football, the most in the sport's history, and had scored more points than anyone in history at the time of his retirement. Blanda retired from Pro Football in 1976. He has been married since December 17, 1949, to Betty Harris and has 11 children.

Blanda's run of comebacks in 1970 was spectacular. Great fun for people who were NFL fans then.

I got to see the old man play QB. One of the few Raiders back then I liked.

God bless you George. You were fun to watch.

RIP

Couldn't agree more. He was the Gordie Howe of Football. Until I read about this, I almost thought he was going to come back and replace Janikowski. He was one of those guys who did almost everything in football. Quite a legacy. It makes me feel pretty old.

He came in a pulled out many a game at the end for the Raiders even when he was well past his prime. Always loved watching him.

RIP, Mr. Blanda.

That is sad. May he rest in peace. He was more of a iron man than Favre ever was.

The man played for Bear Bryant, George Halas, and under Al Davis. The man spanned a lot of great careers, and was a legend in many ways. Nearly took the Raiders to Super Bowl V. RIP.
