Mine:

1: Keanu Benton. Stout and incredibly power. 315 but can anchor like he is 340. Reminds me of pre double digit sack Payne. 1T that has the raw power to anchor like a guy 25 pounds heavier, and with enough pass rush juice to push the pocket and get some occasional pressure. I think he is a late 2nd, earlier 3rd. Better player than Travis Jones last year

2: Mazi Smith. Just behind Benton for me, but he will probably get drafted higher. I don't think he is as complete a player, but he has more upside. However there is also a possibility he is never more than a 2 down guy. I think if he can develop as a pass rusher, he could be a Dalvin Tomlinson like player

3: Jaquelin Roy. Purely as a 1T, he is a bit of a project. But he should be able to play at 315 with no problem. Right now he is more of a 1T and 3T hybrid. Strong player, but will need to get stronger to anchor consistently in the NFL. With a little more weight in an NFL conditioning program that will come. I could see him eventually being similar to Alim McNeil who is developing into a nice 3 down 1T. Roy is probably a late 3rd, early 4th player.

4: Siaki Ika. A darling early in the process as a massive DT that offers pressure in the passing game. However as the process has gone on he has really fallen. His problems are he cant play full games, and he probably isnt athletic enough for his pass rush ability to tranfer to the NFL like it did in college (33 pressures in 2023). However if he is falling to the 3rd or 4th, he is probably becoming underrated. If used in a rotation with 25 to 30 snaps a game, he should still be a very effective player in both pass and run defense.

5: Jerrod Clark. I think there is real upside here. He looks like a slow 2 down only guy right now. However as a former TE who got up to 340 to play NT, there is some athleticism buried under that mass. Going from a small school to the NFL will give him significantly better training resources. I think if he can get to about 320 in the NFL, he will be a significantly more athletic player and possible 3 down 1T. He is a day 3 guy. I like him in the 5th, but I could also see someone taking him in the 4th. Especially if he has interviewed well

Don’t like any of them honestly. They are two down players and we already have one of those in Hankins on the roster. We also have Bohanna who is essentially that. While I’d love to improve our DT run stopping also, I just don’t see the roster spot/value/draft pick cost/benefit bearing out being worth a high draft pick. Wish we had just paid up for A Robinson, who is probably better than any 1T in this draft.

Benton and Roy are both 3 down players.

Hankins is vet minimum player who is regressing. How long will he actually be playable? Bohanna is the reason we felt the need to trade for Hankins.

This is the draft we are talking. Its not for filling in gaps. Its about building your team for the long run

I have 3 and 4 flipped flopped, but the same 5. If you are unable to draft 1 of these five, best not to draft one at all.

Exactly, you don't want to have to sign veterans every offseason to fill the position. Draft a long-term replacement.

I like Hankins, the average opponents YPC was a yard lower when he was in the game. He was also probably a big reason the 49ers didn't run all over us in the divisional round. They could also sign Ford if they felt they needed another one.

I like him, but he needs some development. I was surprised to see Dane rank him as a 7th rd prospect. He also has Roy in the 5th rd.
Roy is a guy I can see alot of people have differing opinions. In alot ways he is a tweener. Not big enough, or with a consistent enough anchor to be a 1t, doesnt have the burst to be a consistent 3t. But you can play him at both spots.

For me, I think he adds 10-15 lbs in the pro's and plays 1T. Long term that is. Could be report in 2024 at 315-320. If he is there, where I think he has value right now is as a different type of 1T than what they have on the roster. A 1T that can move effectively with the LOS on stretch runs. Hankins could do it a little, Bohanna not at all

Young and Redmond are interesting names. Redmond might be too small though

My bad, I thought I changed Redmond to Jerrod Clark from Costal Carolina.

And Young has the arm length that seems like a requirement for us.

Overview
Naturally powerful prospect who is able to take on capable challengers and come out in good shape despite playing with an elevated pad level. Young plays with early hands and a heavy punch to gain positioning quickly against single blocks. He has the core power and contact balance to force double teams to work. Also, he does a nice job of fighting against wash-down blocks and maintaining gap integrity against zone. He has the size, length and strength to become a proficient run defender but offers very little as a pass rusher. While Young will be seen as a natural nose tackle, he could see snaps as a 5-technique as well.
Strengths
  • Rare arm length for a defensive tackle.
  • High win rate getting into the blocker with first hands.
  • Rides zone blocks with good pacing and control to maintain his run fit.
  • Unlocks hips/ankles to drop sturdy anchor against double teams.
  • Does the dirty work to allow linebackers to flow freely.
  • Impressive shed-to-tackle transitions.

I think the Cowboys are going to use all of their draft picks to take a cornerback, tight end, guard, wide receiver, pass rusher, and running back. Do the Cowboys get another 1 tech in free agency. Just not enough draft picks.

I honestly thought that outside runs were more troublesome that ones within the interior, especially after Quinn stopped all those twists/stunts. Think Quinn figured out late, that Parsons is better off the ball in obvious run downs. Think adding that 4i, might be more important.

I definitely agree in 4i. Could explain the early interest in Dexter and Young. You may see Golston there this year, but you want options too

A'Shawn Robinson is still out there and he is from the Dallas area. Think he is better then anyone on this list.

Remember, 1st game against Tampa how they kept on running the same outside run and we just couldn't stop it.

I like him also in the SB two years ago when Mixon got something going they put him in and shut it down. Ford actually has a lot more sacks, TFLs, and QB Hits.
