Ihave a squirrel guy. His name is Buddy and by trade he's a sound engineer, but in his heart of hearts, he's a hunter. Buddy doesn't hunt simply for sport; he, his girlfriend and his son cook only meat and fish that they have personally dispatched.

If Buddy's willing to share meat with me, I say, 'thank you' and take what he's offering. I know his kill was clean, quick and respectful, it'll be expertly cleaned and dressed, and no way am I going to find anything of its variety or caliber in my local butcher shop or supermarket.

That doesn't mean that when he offered me a brace of squirrels, I didn't initially have pause. I got over that pretty pretty quickly - and deliciously - and you should, too. Here's why.

I have had it before...back in my young days. Did not care too much for it.

You would think something you hunted and killed yourself would taste a little better, even if it is just the idea of it. But...just did not care for it too much.

Now...give me some deer meat in chili, or heck give me some good deer jerky and it is on. :laugh2:

No thanks on the squirrel or deer meat. I'll stick with my store bought meats.

As soon as it becomes necessary to kill my own food. Not before.

Why is everyone always looking for something that "tastes like chicken" when there are over 24 Billion chickens on this planet?

Presenting logic on the Internet?

I'd totally try it. Now, I WANT to try it, thanks. Hehe.

Lamb, in my humble opinion, is some of the TASTIEST meat there is. I love little lambs...they taste good.

Squirrel does not really taste like chicken. I think often people will describe something tasting like chicken because it may come close to it but not the same. For me it is has been a while since I have eaten squirrel or rabbit then again it was been a while since I went out hunting.

Come to NY and hit one of these Falafel stands and ask for Lamb and Rice. Best freaking meal you can get in NYC for $5.

I've had it - it's not bad but I certainly wouldn't choose it over deer or duck meat - and it doens't taste anything like chicken.

Squirrels have that rodent thing going to me. When there's nothing left I'll eat it, but as long as there's beef, venison and all the other good things, I'll just say no thanks to rodents.

Country squirrels are good vittles. City squirrels taste to much like garbage.

This is a pass for me also.

Pretty much the same for me too, except I'd probably eat rodent (squirrel) before cockroach (lobster)

I tried Rabbit for the first time Saturday night. I didn't order it, but someone at the table let me try it since they ordered it. It was pretty good. Didn't have any odd flavor to it like some meats have.
