I know we run a fine precision offense, but I noticed we don't run many reverses, flea flickers, half back passes, etc.

Do you think we are saving this stuff for the Playoffs, or is it just not part of Garrett's philosophy?

(Of course, sitting here across the Pond, I don't get to see every Cowboys game, but of the ones I have watched - Pats, Eagles, Giants (twice), Chicago - I haven't noticed much trickery.)

That's a good question, Woods. I don't know the answer but I suspect that Garrett is just being very judicious so that when he does call one it will genuinely be a surprise to the defense.

Perhaps Garrett hasn't needed trick plays to win handily. Only in the Patriots game and, perhaps, the Buffalo game would they have made a difference, I think.

I remember the Pats using 1 or 2 gadget plays against us in that game. They came close . . . .

The Cowboys gadget plays are coming on defense. We don't have a problem moving the ball on offense so I don't see a need to show our hand this early.

I think it's because Dallas has a really good offense and is difficult to stop without any gimicks. The '90's offenses didn't use them much nor did the 80's and 90's Niners. The '07 Pats or the Manning led Colts don't use many either. Simply put, when your offense is capable of lining up and blowing away opponents with regular plays there is no need for gimmick plays.

Gadget plays are really best used to provide a spark to a struggling offense. I just don't think we've needed one.

Gadget plays are usually a last resort. Dallas hasn't been stopped offensively all year, even in its lone loss.

Why take a chance when Dallas can line up and run whatever traditional play they want? The boxer that has the fight in hand usually isn't the one taking chances throwing bombs looking for the knock out in the twelth round.

Could be the gadget plays are being saved until the team needs a cheap score, but it could also be that other teams are less susceptible to gadget plays because they are less worried about our running game,,, they're too busy trying to stop Romo's big plays by keeping defenders deep 90% of the time.

Yes, I agree with that. But I thought a reverse may help the running game a bit in that opposing defenses can't over-pursue.

But I was thinking more in terms of just giving opposing DC a little something extra to think about and keeping opposing defenses more "honest".

It's all about tendencies and need.If we don't have a tendency to run gadget plays then they won't be looking for us to run any. It helps that we don't NEED to resort to them right now.Then BLAM we open up the second half of a close contest in the SuperBowl with a flea-flicker and blow it wide open.
