Good old days

I was born and raised in NJ when they only had 6 tv channels to watch. 2,4,5,7,9, and 11. The cowboys played Philly and they were on 3 and 13 sometimes and I remember getting up early on Sunday morning and putting foil on those old rabbit ears just to try and watch the game even tho the picture was snowy. I hope this brings back some good memories for us old timers. The way the Cowboys are now I wouldn't dream of doing that!

Yup. I remember them rabbit ears too. Monkeying with them for several minutes getting them in just the right position to see the game. Living out in the country in Oklahoma made that a real challenge.

I hear you I was so upset in a playoff game against the 49ers where we were losing going into the fourth quarter that my mom shut the television off and took the knobs off.
I went to the basement and got a pair of needle nose pliers got the TV back on locked my door and watched Roger Staubach bring the Cowboys back with touchdowns to Billy parks and Ron sellers in what I feel was one of the greatest comebacks in cowboy history.
I believe I was 10 at the time this is when we were the real Dallas Cowboys a team you could be proud to watch I love those days and wish we had them back

In Junior high I got into a couple of actual fights because of people giving me too much crap about the Cowboys.

These days, I arguably hate the Cowboys more than the opposing fans do. Certainly, they love Jerry, and I can't say what I really want to about him.

I remember subscribing to the Dallas Cowboys Weekly. Read the sports section on both the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I would get up early and watch the old Tom Landry show where he would break down film of the last game they played. I literally couldn't get enough Cowboys News.

Now the overwhelming amount of Cowboys info I get is what I read on this forum.

Yeah I remember flipping to sports page of my small local newspaper everyday looking for the usual small tidbits of NFL news looking for Cowboys news.
Tv, yeah I had 4 channels and sundays only a few games in obviously. Only blessing then was cowboys was on more than just once or twice a year.

I remember it well. I was at a friend's house and we went crazy and knocked over the Christmas tree and smashed a couple of presents celebrating. I was about 10 also. Good times....

Yep. You could see the NYC skyline from the top of the mountain behind my house, and it was hard to tell which team was which, unless you held the foil on the antenna, with one foot in the air.

South Jersey here.
Didn't need the rabbit ears because I was in the Philadelphia TV market. In the mid to late 70s, eagles home games were blacked out sometimes, even the early 80s too. Eagles fans refuse to remember that. They always had the Cowboys game on at 4pm. It was a great time to be a Cowboys fan because winning was the most important thing, unlike with Jerry and the Jones.
I'm so glad I was able to see all of their super bowls except the Colts loss and the Dolphins win, I was only 4 and 5 at the time.
I feel bad for today Cowboys fans, the Cowboys of the 70s were awesome.
We'll never have that again, sadly.

So you remember the ice bowl they called it. That was when I first started liking them. Don Meredith, Don Perkins, Bob Hayes, Bob Lilly, Jethro Pugh,Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordan, Mel Renfro, Cornell Green, I can go on and on. Great times.

Same. Born and raised in NJ with those channels...those who know...know. If you wanted to watch highlights you had to "stay tuned" to the halftime shows...probably the only way you were going to see them with/without cable.

We are a FAR CRY from how those teams were run and operated.

I used to beg my Mom to get me a subscription to that little magazine called the Star or something like that and I would read it cover to cover sometimes more than once just looking for nuggets or glimmers of hope. Got three channels 3, 6. 12 and the Cowboys played on 12 and we would have to go outside and hand turn the pole so that the antenna could bring in the signal better. Naw, was dedicated to a football team then now I am left wondering just what this mess of a man has done to my team. Also spent my Moms money on any magazines that featured Cowboys news on the cover. Just make it stop already! I feel like I've entered the proverbial Twight Light zone.
