Some of you may have seen this already, but if you haven't. There is some good info on both the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich.

They are all named after deserts.

Naming stuff after a specific subject is very common in the IT industry. Many people name servers after cosmic stuff or Greek Mythology.

If you notice, Intel names most of their projects after towns, rivers or mountains close by.

Google chose deserts for Android.

I used to do it for my servers, but quit a some years ago. When you get so many servers and the mix and matching of services running on those servers, it become impractical. Naming releases is much easier.

Today I just use a location / service ID scheme I created. The tag tells me where it is and what it is doing and which of that group of servers it is.

We used to use super heroes until we ran out and they boss wouldn't let us use villains. We also couldn't use Human Torch because we had a fire in our building in 2002. That was not fun.

I see nothing there that would even come close to making me want one over an iPhone and I don't want an iPhone. I'm not an Apple fanboi but android is the ugly step-sibling in the market right now. All of the android-powered phones I have seen feel like toys and the OS comes across as an old version of linux trying to look cooler than it is.

Before Sam goes all anti-apple on me let me say that I am rooting heavily for android. It's just like I root heavily for non-apple laptop companies. However, laptop companies continue to make ugly and cheesy looking laptops no matter how much they try to copy the macbooks.

The first thing Google should do is find a phone company with designers capable of thinking outside of the box. Every freaking android phone that comes out these days looks like every other android phone. It's like they are afraid to think for themselves when it comes to design.

To make matters worse, all of those speakers in the video were very dry, slow and spent more time talking about nothing than actually trying to prove android phones have arrived.

The android guy saying something like "We found that while people wanted android phones and needed android phones ...... they didn't loooooooove android phones." I'm sorry but what the heck is that? And the guy's suit? Making me hungry for chicken was all he succeeded in doing.

I see it different. I look at the iPhone and what I see is a replica of the contemporary black lacquer furniture of the 80s made into a phone. Very sleek, but also very plain. For the iPhone it is 100% the apps that make the phone. The OS itself as plain as a blank sheet of paper.

That isn't the case with Android. The OS is customizable. You can make it act different ways, change your home screens, have different home screens, reassign buttons, place and adjust the size of widgets. The OS offers base level services that iOS does not. The ability to not just block an apps data usage, but ONLY block it's background data usage. So, you can prevent those stupid apps from reporting where you are at all times even when not using the app.

Basically, the Android OS allows you to make your phone what you want. The iPhone you basically have to accept what you get.

Both phones have apps. It's Android OS that makes the different for me. As I noted above. The Prime phone is nice, but it's Android that makes the phone kick ***.

I was disappointed to read that you are unable to add a memory card to the Nexus. I guess I'll wait.....
