It's official now, and there is muscle jumping on board with them. (Intel, Dish Network, Sony, BestBuy, and Logitech)

I've posted an Youtube explanation of it, but check the link too.

My cable provider is going to get kicked to the curb for TV.

So is Google going to be a provider or basically applying a 'search engine' to your existing provider?

Seems like the only difference is that they will make it easier to search for TV shows.

Meh.

It's going to be their site and they will provide content from content providers. Like Dish Network. You will be able to watch all Dish Network station on your TV via the Internet and I believe all TV shows will be on demand. (or can be I think)

It will be like Hulu, but far more massive in content and it will play on your TV. Not to mention it will have other apps you can run.

SWEEEEEEEET. I hate comcast. Now, we need to make high-speed internet affordable.

As long as I can still get Dexter when it comes around, I'll be happy to drop Comcast for Google TV.

I'm thrilled with this. Google is going to do for set top boxes what apple did for smart phones. No more crappy limited UIs that give you what the manufacturer thinks you want. Welcome to slick UIs that you can customize and add and remove content and providers to your heart's content.

I for one welcome our new TV overlords....

I was just talking about this with a relative a few days ago. I was saying that I knew something like this was lurking in shadows and it was just a matter of time.

I am totally excited!

Aw, if Google TV carries the NFL Network, Time Warner can kiss my money good bye.

I need these channels in my life: NFL Network and Military Channel. If I can get those with Google TV, I'm going to be a happy camper.

Here's a few snippets from Sony's website.

An HDTV that searches.
The Sony Internet TV makes searching for content faster and simpler than ever before. Whether you're looking for a channel, show, or website, it's never been easier to find what you want.

An HDTV that's smart.

An HDTV that's powerful.
Imagine the performance with Intel Inside®. The Sony Internet TV has enough processing power to easily load sites and stream videos, while a wireless handheld QWERTY remote makes navigation simple.

Google TV is a device, not a carrier. They won't be replacing Time Warner or Cox or DirecTV or Dish network, but supplementing them.

It won't be the first time the Internet stripped the power off a corporate entity or industry, and it won't be the last. :D

Actually, it appears Dish Network will be providing content to Google TV. As will Sony, Netflix, and Amazon.

From what I understand, Dish Network is just the first carrier that will have set top boxes that have Google TV on them.

Honestly, it doesn't sound that cool to me. I can currently stream Netflix, Youtube, etc on my TV as it is since it's internet-enabled. I also have a DVR. I also know how to use the search function on my current cable box. I don't think they're really offering me anything other than a central location to use it all.

Yeah it doesn't really seem that great to me either.

I think there has to be more to it.

The moment I can pay for any single channel by itself will be the moment that I get excited about TV.
