Great Concert Moments You've Experienced

I love live music, and have been to many, many concerts over the years. I've had some pretty cool moments at most of them. Here's a few that stand out...

At a Page & Plant show, Robert Plant stopped singing Black Dog about 3 words into the 2nd "Hey, Hey Momma" line because the crowd was so loud....so he just let us finish up the entire song for him while he sat back and smiled/laughed. It was truly a spontaneous, cool concert moment.

At a festival in Baltimore, MD I saw Matchbox 20 before they had any singles released (they were very good), Jimmy's Chicken Shack (anytime you see them in their hometown it's ridiculous), Better Than Ezra (the best band that you've never listened to) and Slash's Blues Band all from right against the stage, front and center. Slash flipped a cigarette out of his mouth and it hit me right in the chest.....almost set me on fire.

Saw Godflesh, Type O Negative & Danzig at the Tower in Philly. HUGE mosh pit broke out for Danzig and I got launched to the seats in about 5 seconds. Great show by all 3 bands though.

Speaking of Type O, I saw them on Halloween once at the Trocadero. If you know anything about Type O, you know that that's gotta be the absolute best time to see them. They were outstanding, and after the show, they raided the audience with toilet paper! It was crazy....15 minutes of TP battle between the band and the fans. Can't see them on Halloween anymore..RIP Peter Steele.

Seeing Springsteen from about 8 rows out at Hershey was incredible. Best 3.5 hours of a concert experience I've ever had. For those of you that don't know, Springsteen doesn't waste your time with opening bands...he comes out right away and blows you away for 3-4 hours. The band was on fire and the energy from the crowd was great. He closed out the show with a 10 minute version of G...L...O...R...I...A Glooooooooooria! So good. 31 songs that night...amazing.

Saw Pantera from front and center at the Electric Factory on Dimebag's Birthday. They brought a cooler out on stage and were drinking and sharing drinks with the crowd all night. Great show as always, and the push from the crowd was crazy when the show started. It was about 120* in the pit at that show. They were hosing us down with water and people were getting pulled out left and right. Crazy.

How about you...what are some of your cool concert experiences?

Thats cool about the Pantera show. I can imagine that happening at the page/plant show. I saw them in 98 and it was easily one of the best shows ive seen in my life.
Did see VH at the okc civic center in the summer of 79. It was their first headlining tour and after the show their limo did a pass thru the parking lot as people were exiting and Dave was out thru the sunroof of the limo really getting the fans worked up.
Also at a Rush concert while walking around came upon a couple in the aisle getting it on lol. You would expect this at a crue or vh concert but rush cmon have a some standards lol.

1971. I was eight years old and went to a Three Dog Night Concert at Bowman Field In Williamsport. It was great because it was my first live concert.

I've been to tons of concerts over the years and have many stories I could tell. But the first time I ever saw Iron Maiden was one of the great concert moments for me. Back in 1983, I believe, they opened up for Ozzy and at that time weren't a mainstream band by any measure. Standing on the floor just feet from the stage we were prepared for another great Ozzy show. But what happened after Maiden took the stage I can't describe because I still don't understand it to this day. My friends and I were literally blown away. That might have been the greatest performance I have ever seen. Afterwards we literally stood there speechless for the longest time. I will never forget that.

Nice!
My first "real" concert was to see Rush at the Spectrum in Philly. Candlebox was opening for them. Me and my buddies piled into a minivan and drove down. I'm sitting in the back back seat and we got about 10 minutes from the venue when I hear the van's brakes looking up and feel the g-forces pulling me forward. I look up just in time to watch us rearend some lady in a car! We pull over, she pulls over and unbelievably, her car is not damaged. Our van had a smashed headlight and bumper damage but the airbags never went off. So we all just pile back inside and continue on. We got there in time to see Candleboxes last song and all of Rush's 2.5 hour set. Blew me away! Rush is an incredibly talented band and they play it just like it is on the cd. Great show.

saw A7X few weeks ago, the show started with a guy dangling from a noose prob 30 feet above the stage, then he just stopped moving and hung there for the rest of the song, pretty awesome.

deftones white pony tour 2001, i was getting an autograph from the guitarest after the show and about 5 security guards walked through carrying Chino (lead singer) out because he was passed out drunk.

Slipknot/Coal Chamber/Machine Head - '99

walked into a restaurant before the show to get some food, there were 7 guys sitting around a table with what looked like backstage passes hanging around their necks, i leaned over and asked how they got backstage passes and they were like "..uhh we're the band.." - so i got to see all of slipknot without their masks on..and they all signed my cowboys cap

tool - every show of theirs that i have seen has been incredible

fair to midland is also an amazing live show...they're a band from sulpher springs...

I've gotta say im jealous of Type O on Halloween that is something that you'll never be able to see again...

Seen a lot.
PanterA was tight as hell.
Megadeth never let me down.
Saw that Metallica GnR in 92.
Seen Iron Maiden 4 times, one of those times in first row and caught Steve Harris' sweaty wristband.
Another time was in 5th row during their World Tour '08 in San Antonio and they broke out the giant Eddie from Live After Death...Awesomeness.

Can you talk about this show? Any and all details are welcome. I'm so mad at myself for not going with my friends to see them when I had the chance.

Sure,Faith No More was the opening act,the Metallica slayed everyone with a 3 hour set,and GnR closed with another 3 hour set.
It was Metallica's first concert after the Montrel pyrotechnics incident.
Hetfield did not play guitar that day,it was the roadie filling in and he did an outstanding job. There was a bass, drum solo and guitar solo.
GnR set went smoothly and without any controversy other than Axl telling the audience that Gilby hated him.

Loud as hell in an open stadium(Williams-Brice,Columbia South Carolina).

the ridiculously over the top pyrotechnics, flaming guitars, 6' male genitalia, mic stand getting put through an amp of rammstein was fairly memorable

:laugh2: Yours went better than ours. I saw them at the Citrus Bowl and Axl did not want to come on stage for whatever reason. They were awesome when he finally did, though. Faith No More was a huge surprise. I had no idea how good they were live.

My favorite experience was catching Hetfield's Guitar pick after a concert they did in Jacksonville.

One of my relatives bought tickets for me and my wife to go with him to the same show at Hershey but I turned them down. I love Springsteen and saw him before in Philly at a packed Veterans Stadium; he's absolutely phenomenal but he’s gone way over board with his politics and interjecting them into every interview, as well as his music. It’s a shame too because Bruce is such an incredible performer and Hershey is a nice venue. I saw Billy Joel at Hershey a couple of months before the Springsteen concert and it was a great performance; the guy still has a tremendous voice at his age.

To each his own. I appreciate his conviction and courage to take a stand on issues that he cares about.
His concerts are always 1/3 Rock Show, 1/3 Political Rally & 1/3 Revival Meeting.

His earlier concerts were never 1/3 political rally and he never ran around bashing any political party or President. You can sing about social issues, the working man, the underdog, the poor and the down trodden without crossing that line and still have people empathetic to your cause.

I’m not arguing with you and it was my loss (not going to the Hershey concert). The man puts on an absolutely incredible show and people will only have so many opportunities left to see him live in concert.

Define "earlier". He's been vocal about his politics since Born in the USA came out in the 80's.

Any parrotheads in here??
My first Jimmy Buffett concert was quite the experience. (par for the course for regulars) The concert was much more layed back than the parking lot, which is where the real party takes place! We got there about 4 hours early and set up tequila shots on the tailgate of my buddies truck. We made margaritas and passed out shots to cars as they drove past our spot, searching for parking. It lead to many people congregating at our parking spot, which lead to a great pre-concert party. You would not believe the things you see at a Buffett show. He spans all age groups (much like Dylan) and it leads to some really creative things. My favorite setup was a pickup loaded with sand, with a real palm tree stuffed in it, and a keg. It was awesome. The guy literally brought the beach to us. The show was great, I lost my voice from singing along all night, and on the way back to the car, I almost stepped on some guy about 60 years old, laying on his back, shouting "This was the best night of my entire life!" :lmao: Good times.

I saw Page and Plant in Austin that was obviously awesome.

The Butthole Surfers and Stone Temple Pilots in San Antonio was a good one.

Pink Floyd A Momenentary Lapse Of Reason tour in Austin was fantastic.

Motorhead at The Opera House in Austin 1988.

The best ever though was The Bob Marley Survival Tour in Dallas.
