I'm not certain where to start. Now that I've asked the question I don't really have a clue.

Is the speech of Lou Gehrig considered a sports moment or should it be an active sporting event?

Final minute of USA over USSR?

Jesse Owens winning the gold? Or Joe Louis beats Max Smeling?

Bob Hayes performance in the 4x100m relay in Tokyo?

Don Larsen's perfect game?

Thompson's shot?

Bosox rally to win 4 st8?

Willie Mays The Catch?

Immaculate Reception?

Ameche scores in OT?

Ice Bowl QB sneak?

Lilly sacks Griese?

The Catch?

Jets beat Colts? Namath guarantees victory?

The Shot by Babe Ruth?

Clay beats Liston first time?

Denny McLains 30th?

Ted Williams final game .402 season?

Maris's 61st?

Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier?

A J Foyt wins his 4th?

Roger Bannister's first sub 4 min mile?

Douglas knocks out Tyson?

No Mas?

Secretariat beats Sham in the 73 Belmont; sets records in all three triple crown races; accelerates in each successive quarter at the Belmont?

Villanova beats Georgetown? NC State beats Houston?

Mets over the Orioles? Or should we get back to a moment?

I'm not a huge hockey fan but, the miracle on ice is by far the greatest sports moments of all time.

I dont know if you can dogmatically say ONE moment is the best.

Cal Ripken's 2131 has to be up there tho . . . . . . .

like a lot of things the greatest moment thing is all relative. i doubt people outside of the US give a crap about the miracle on ice. i think this topic is entirely based on each individual's opinion.

for me, its vince young scoring the game winning TD vs USC in the 06 Rose Bowl.

True, I would imagine in Russia it is not a favorite. I also very much enjoyed watching UT beat U$C for the title.

...for some reason in sports we get fixated with assuming the greatest thing that can happen is associated with a improbable win.

Derek Redmond in the 200m and the ensuing drama that occurs.

This is a lesson we should all be sharing with our kids when they enter the sports arena.

A lesson for the participants and a lesson for the parents.

Game six of the '96 NBA finals, Jordan wins another Championship on the first Father's Day after his father was murdered. Seeing the greatest sports star of the day break down emotionally brought the human element to sports. That is my greatest sports moment and the one I remember the best.

2012 when Tony Romo led th Cowboys back from 21 points down to defeat Peyton Manning and the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Oh that hasn't happened yet, but it will. ;)

Miracle on Ice is probably my pick; with the build up and the setting and how great the game actually was

By the way Secretariat accelerated every quarter of the Kentucky Derby not the Belmont. But on that day in the Belmont I think he could of done it as well. Still consider it the greatest single performance by a horse in horse racing history

And now that he finally gets the record in the Preakness he nows owns all three.

Nothing comes to mind that can top that Jordan moment for me.

I've been watching Mark Cavendish destroy all other sprinters at the Tour de France over the last five years but there was never a GOAT moment in there. I watched Phelps win his golds but never had the GOAT feeling either. There is the sprinter with no legs, that is a feel good story but it didn't have a GOAT moment (though if he won it would make the list no doubt). Watching the Japanese women win the world cup was a great moment for them and I was happy for them, but not a great moment for me.

Plenty of great things are happening, I just can't put them up there with the Jordan moment for me.

the Lakers were playing great that series and the Rockets still kicked their ***. Do you remember that Hakeem was thrown out earlier in the game for fighting? Too bad Mitchell Wiggens and Lewis Lloyd decided to get so coked up they couldn't see straight in the finals against Boston. Houston had also lost John Lucas to drugs.
