Yep. He hasn't exactly been a stallion in the front office thus far. He has put several blemishes on the new fangled Rangers. The new ownership has a very good team and they were hoping to change the perception of the Rangers so that free agents would be more interested in coming to the Rangers. It wasn't helping that he kept putting his foot in his mouth and then the Michael Young deal was a cluster you know what.

When you have a consummate professional and all around good guy ask to be traded when he considers Texas the place he wants to be. You know you've done something wrong. Knowing Nolan Ryan, he he upfront and frank about things. He isn't the type of person to do what was done to Michael Young. (say one thing and do another) Not to mention I believe Daniels was getting his feet stepped on by Greenberg. (though I cannot confirm that)

I also believe that the Adrian Beltre signing (at $96M anyway) was not a happily agreed upon consensus. That too was causing ripples within the ownership.

Just to reiterate, I cannot confirm the Greenberg overstepping Daniels or the ripples caused by the Beltre signing. Those were just observations given to me by someone a bit closer to what was happening, but not directly involved. Though, if you look at the Michael Young situation, clearly Daniels has foot-prints on his back. I can only guess that the same type of thing occurred in the Beltre situation, though obviously everyone had to sign off on the signing before it could happen.

I'm actually pretty happy this is going to happen. While I'm sure Greenberg meant no harm, (obviously, he has a huge investment in the team) he clearly was harming the team in several different ways. I hope that the rest of the management and ownership sit down with Young after this. I want Michael Young to finish his career here and I hope this will placate him into changing his mind about leaving.

Its weird but its really not going to mean much in the long run. The fans will still and have always accepted Nolan. Most people that I know when talking about the new ownership just mention Nolan anyways. If its true about the conflict in the front office then him stepping down is a good thing. Robin Ventura knows what its like to confrot Nolan and the fans would just boycott him if he did.

Interesting. It will be damned interesting to hear what the real reason is - if we ever know.

Not only is Greenberg stepping down as CEO, he is being bought completely out of ownership.

Under the old arrangement, Ryan was going to be in complete charge of baseball operations while Greenberg would concentrate on the business side. But Greenberg took an active role during negotiations with free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee this winter. Lee ultimately signed for less money with the Phillies.

Daniels said Greenberg's involvement in the negotiations did not create any concerns. Daniels has been reporting directly to Ryan for the past three years, and that will continue.

The hell they didn't. :muttley:
