Former Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Sunday morning.

In the deal, the Royals are reportedly acquiring Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain, shortstop Alcides Escobar and pitching prospects Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress for the 27-year-old Greinke, 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA in 2010 after winning the 2009 Cy Young.

I'm glad he didn't end up with the Yankees.

Too unstable.

Plus the Yanks would have had to send several prospects to KC.

The July 31st trading deadline will present better opportunitines.

What the heck are the Rangers going to do?

I don't think I'd lose hope.

Starting pitching at the major league level has always been a wildcard from season to season except for the top-flight starters. And that's been that way for as long as I can remember. You'll have a guy who's tossing up an ERA of 3.3 one year and then 4.5 the next. Or you'll see the reverse.

What a complete failure of an offseason. I'm reading stuff about Garza and Pavano:)laugh2:) are you kidding me?

Rangers had a chance to win over DF/W and become a powerhouse but you lose lee, miss out on Grienke. How can anyone expect the rangers to beat a healthy angels team out for the division this season?

They are building the team the right way. Don't bet the farm on a couple guys. Build your farm system, improve your roster and if you are in a position to make it to the post season then trade to make a run.

I would have liked Lee or Greinke but Lee was too expensive to risk and who knows what they wanted for Greinke in return.

In Nolan I trust.

Exactly right. And that applies to both the Yankees and Rangers. There will be starters available at the end of July, and they'll be much less costly than they are now.

I cried when I saw this. Hopefully we can get someone like Pavano, or just anyone!

Well it's a win win for the Rangers. Don't give out a 7 year contract to a 32 year old pitcher and you still keep your prospects.

Agreed. I keep hearing a lot about Brackman, Banuelos, and Betances. Interested to see how they pan out.

INteresting.

Like jamey newburg said, they will be a team selling at the break this year and next and he could end up getting moved next summer (12) along with fielder.

After Grienke's subpar season last year, I felt KC was asking too much for him. While he would have been nice to have, the Rangers still have several options not only in trade / FA. That have talent within the organization too.

I think the Rangers will be at their best pitching wise by 2012 or 2013 at the latest. (providing they don't trade that talent away)

I agree. The Rangers may sit this offseason out. But they have the talent to stick around for a while.

Does anyone remember that the Rangers were already in 1st place even before signing Lee?

Obviously Lee was a big help, and Grienke would have been, but the Rangers have a wealth of young arms that have a chance to step up. There is also talk of making Feliz a starter. Obviously young arms have to porve themselves, but there are enough in the Rangers organization that I don't think it's fair to act as if all is lost without Lee or Grienke.

Sorry, Rangers...looks like your 15 minutes are up.

Hows that?

Lets see: Same team was winning the west last year without Lee.

Keep the division close and make a move at the deadline, including a possible move for Greinke and Prince Fielder when the Brewers are out of contention.

Keeping growing the young guys.

A young team who has plenty of salary room and has control of majority of it's players, a great young GM, and an ownership group that has shown it is committed to winning.

15 minutes - I think not

Garza and Pavano are solid mid-rotation guys. Valuable even if they're not elite.

Gotta trade for Garza and he's not worth what the Rays are looking for. Pavano, maybe on a 1 year deal...but would prefer to look at a move at the deadline and use the young guys to start the season. Or sign B. Webb on the cheap and see if he's healthy.

CJ
Lewis
Holland
Hunter
Kirkman/Webb

Did you pay attention to the division last year? it was horrible.

Angels MVP Morales had a freak injury and it was basically a season from hell for the angels. However they made moves late last year that made them much better going forward. Haren, Weaver, and Santana give them a more than formidable rotation and their offense should be back to angels standards next year.

We need to ATLEAST get Matt Garza(no thank you to Pavano) along with CJ/Lewis, and hope that one of our young arms like Holland, hunter, and Feliz step up. As for now we have maybe the 3rd best rotation behind Oakland and LA in our division.
