Griffin Going Pro

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is informing Baylor coach Art Briles Tuesday that he has decided to turn pro, according to a family source, and an announcement is imminent.

The Heisman Trophy winner's next task is to choose an agent and he is in the process of finalizing his choice of representatives, which could come as early as Tuesday night.

The deadline for underclassmen to formally petition for the NFL draft is Sunday.

Griffin is projected as a top-10 pick and several personnel officials believe he could go high as the first or second choice depending on his pre-draft workouts and evaluations.

Baylor this season matched a school record with 10 wins and won its last six games, including a record-breaking 67-56 victory over Washington in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Griffin threw for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions, and his completion percentage of 72.39 percent was just shy of national leader Russell Wilson of Wisconsin (72.82). Griffin also ran for 699 yards and 10 more scores.

Griffin, who arrived at Baylor in January 2008 after graduating high school a semester early, got his undergraduate degree in political science in December 2010 and is working on a masters in communication.

Griffin, who played this season as a fourth-year junior, has another year of eligibility remaining at Baylor because he got a medical redshirt after he tore the ACL in his right knee in the third game of the 2009 season.

In 41 games for the Bears, he has completed 800 of 1,192 passes (67 percent) for 10,366 yards with 78 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He has run for 2,254 yards and 33 TDs and set at least 46 school records.

Who should Indy take with the #1 pick Luck or Griffin?

Depends on what they want to do with Manning. If the only option is taking one of those two, then hands down I would say Luck but they may not go that way. They may trade down.

What's sadly funny is this is the SECOND time ESPN and Mort screwed up, he's made NOTHING announced, Baylor's AD already twittered against the second false report from BSPN in as many weeks.

Deep down you probably think it is going to happen this year. It's sad because he is such a good college QB, it's sad because someone like the skins will trade the farm to get him...however the silver lining is that means there is one more good player that will fall to our slot.

I wish him well with whatever his decision, i just wonder why ESPN can't wait to report news when it's real.

ESPN is legit. All the big news that comes out is from there.
Not lately friend, Mort has a terrible batting average this year.

It's not just ESPN that does this, they just get noticed more for it.

See it more and more now that a paper, site, station or some form of news media is so quick to jump the gun on things in order to try and break a story instead of waiting for all the facts.

Not as much as you think, Florence started all of 2009 after RG3 was injured and is considered a player coach because he's so football smart, mobile enough and makes all the right throws (that's assuming RG3 is gone) on the bench are two other red shirt three star recruits at qb and now Baylor is one of three finalists to get five star recruit Qb Devin Fuller.

At RB Lache Seastrunk, former five star recruit who transferred over from Oregon, becomes eligible next year after sitting out.

Kendell Wright is gone but Lanier Sampson, Tevin Reese and Williams make a pretty impressive group as does Norwood and the addition of new recruit Corey Coleman.

O line remains big and powerful.

At tighend Jordan Najvay, lone man to ever play with ANdrew Luck and RG3, is back at tight end at only a junior.

You'll learn how good a recruiter and Coach Briles is next year, RG3 just got people to pay attention to a program that was blah or worse for a decade.

If preseason is any indication they're already projected to open the year ranked 7 to 9 with RG3 and in the low 20s without him.

While I hate to lose him, I'm so happy for this young man. He is a true gentlemen and represents all that a student athlete should, and I'm proud that my son can look up to someone like him. I'm excited for him to be getting a chance to go the NFL, and even more excited for what he has brought to Baylor and our area. Good luck to RGIII, and sic 'em, Bears!
