Grumpy Cat initially met fame on the link-sharing website Reddit in 2012, and quickly went viral. The original uploaded image garnered one million hits in its first two days on photo-hosting site Imgur.

Known for her grumpy frown, the cat's photo is usually accompanied by captions that are equally sour. Her popularity led to T-shirts, calendars, gift wrap and a best-selling book available in 14 languages and even an agent.

The cat's unusual appearance was not in fact due to her temperament but an unusual combination of an underbite and feline dwarfism, a form of genetic mutation.

Grumpy was in fact very pleasant and playful.

It's way too young for a cat. It's like someone dying in their 30's. My last cat passed at 17. I was lucky to have her that long.

With this new money and business opportunity, Bundesen was able to quit her job waitressing at Red Lobster.

I was thinking the same thing. Cats can get up to age 20 and I think even 30 if I'm not mistaken.

Typically mid-teens, but as long as 20 on occasion.

Pure-breeds can have a shorter life span due to their "pure" genetic makeup that can leave them more susceptible to weaknesses within the body as opposed to mixed breeds.

We had a pure-bred Maine Coon that passed away at 8 years-old due to a heart condition– And upon doing some research found that is a common ailment in the breed.

Since he died so young, I must be true that it takes more effort to frown than smile...
