I have been getting some old comics recently, and ran across this one .
I am fairly sure the cover is by Jack Kirby who created the visuals of many early Marvel characters.
The inside art was done by him too on the Groot story. Doesnt say, I just know his art.
here is the Cover

lol he even says I am Groot!
So I think the artist who created Guardians of Galaxy comic in the 80's must of read this book.
Then refashioned Groot to a hero and on a team.

Just thought some guardian/groot fans might find this interesting
This book was a nov 1960 issue, before marvel came out with Fantastic Four in 61 or 62.
Antman later took over this mag with issue #35 after a previous story appeared in issue 27.

Kirby probably created most of the early Marvel heroes as far as what they look like , costumes etc.
And maybe even some of the concepts.

Steve Ditko was the other top Artist Marvel had at the time and he created Spiderman , and plotted the storys
thru issue 37 where he got mad at stan lee , walked out and never came back.
He also created Dr. Strange and a good long storyline for him.

Before that Steve and Jack did these monster mystery stories for marvel. And many prototypes of early marvel
heroes and villians appeared in those stories.
