Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton and designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero added some hardware to their illustrious careers Thursday, when they received Louisville Slugger's Silver Slugger Award for their respective positions in the American League.
Hamilton, who also won the award in 2008, was selected to the AL outfield along with Carl Crawford of the Rays and Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays. Hamilton won the AL batting title with a .359 average and also led the league in slugging percentage (.633) and OPS (1.044). Hamilton hit 32 homers, drove in 100 runs and added 40 doubles, all the while missing most of September because of a sore knee and two fractured ribs.
Guerrero is also no stranger to the award, as he has now won it eight times -- the previous seven coming as an outfielder. The 35-year-old veteran hit .300 with an .841 OPS, 29 homers and 115 RBIs this season while playing in 152 games, marking his highest total since 2006.
