It seems silly to me to be fans of America's team and not realize how amazing this country is. I know we have fans from other countries on this forum, but I think even they realize that the birth of this nation and the nations that succeeded it in policies is the greatest event in modern History.

235 years ago 56 men signed their own death sentences by committing treason against the crown. We owe them everything that we are a sovereign nation.

I hope that each of you enjoy this holiday and above all that you respect what we have. It does not get any better than this country.

Please feel free to express your patriotism, but I ask you not to get political.

Depends on definition of modern history (time of reference).

There are a ton of events that could be called the greatest

D Day, Dropping of A bomb, Battle of Waterloo, US Civil War (1st and 2nd-1st was the American Revolutionary War), French Revolution, American Revolution (before the war).

I usually pick the French Revolution because it wasn't just political but also anti-clerical and ended much of church power in Europe but the counter argument is that the system set up by your revolutionaries lasted whereas the one set up by the French revolutionaries did not. Part of that can be explained of course by the Atlantic Ocean preventing other European nations from attacking your revolution.

In my view, if you pick either the American Revolution/Dec of Independence or the French Revolution as the seminal event in modern history, you aren't wrong.

One thing to remember of course is that there were 15 colonies in North America at the time, the thirteen southernmost rebelled whereas the two northernmost ones, Nova Scotia and Quebec did not.

The continental army invaded Quebec in 1775 under the leadership of Montgomery and Arnold I believe but were defeated. That defeat pretty much guaranteed there would be two countries in North America. About 46000 loyalists came north after you won your war.

Studies show about 15-20 of the population in the 13 colonies actually were loyalist.

Thanks for calling the holiday we're celebrating "Independence Day" and not the "4th of July". I know it's a small thing, but when you call it Independence Day it reinforces what the day is supposed to be about.

Not really comparable but I don't want to get political. Everyone have a great Independence Day.
