Harley-Davidson's new electric motorcycle

If I was going to buy a Harley, there is no way it would be electric.

Maybe I should have phrased it as "If I was going to buy a motorcycle, it would not be electric". An electric Harley just doesn't seem right to me.;) The funny thing about electric stuff is they are environmentally friendly and such but what happens to all the lithium ion batteries when they wear out. There is going to be a lot of "un"-environmentally friendly hazardous waste one of these days from all the dead batteries.
 
What I think would be cool would be an electric dirt bike. I'm normally a purist about stuff, but just the idea of riding single track without the noise sounds awesome to me.

That is why I think if there will be a next gen Lithium-Sulfur battery and the other prototypes will be much more able to be recycled.

Do you know how they produce electricity? Primarily coal and other fuels. We are a long way from electric vehicles that are truly environmentally friendly. To be truly environmentally friendly today they should be making more natural gas vehicles. We should also be building more nuclear power plants but nobody wants them in their back yard--and they have their own hazardous waste unfortunately.

I agree. My point about the electric stuff is that they are being made to appease environmentalist when they will cause their own environmental problems down the road from haz. waste and your point about how they produce electricity is very true. The "green" vehicles are not as "green" as they are cracked up to be. Frankly I am surprised Harley Davidson would even make something like this.

BTW- I hope I am not getting too political here.
 
I don't think it is really about environmentalism, but I see that people are trying to get stuck on that point. This is the future of vehicles whether it is 50+ years from now or 300 years from now technology will advance and the transition will be made. It is hard to find advocates for turning back to making steam powered transportation instead of the type of combustion we use today.
 
It does seem like an odd direction for Harley as the look and sound is as big a selling point as any for many and they are not exactly know for being forerunners on the cutting edge of technology.

I don't think I would be all to comfortable riding in any sort of traffic on a silent bike.

The lack of range and low torque make it a novelty for me personally.

Looks sharp though.

I can't see how a cruiser would be appealing while sounding like a microwave. Part of the appeal (for me anyway) of a cruiser is the loud pipes.

Well said. Seems some people want that to be the case but with as mass produced as lithium batteries are, any possible environmental impact from batteries would be a current concern, not some point down the road.
 
Kind of disappointed it doesn't look like a Tron Light Cycle.

I'd pick one up.

Just picked up my first Harley.

2008 Nightster. Only had 2500 miles on the odometer.

Love riding this machine.
