counter-protest in Harrisburg, IL, against the controversial Westboro Baptist Church, who planned to protest a funeral for the people who died during the February 29 tornado. They estimate around 3,000 people showed up, forming a human chain to prevent the WBC picketers from approaching the funeral. 'The WBC people didn't even get out of the car,' he said. 'The vibe was: Don't mess with the families who have already lost so much. All the town around here, once they found out what was going on, all came together in support of our community.'

I don't know what the deal is with WBC but it is great to see a comminuty come together and say Not here

Can't these guys be arrested for hate crimes? I mean their domain name alone is a hate crime isn't it?

No they have the right to protest. As much as I disagree with their warped vision they have a high to express it.

Protesting a funeral of people who died in a tornado? Is that a dishonorable way to die or something?

Phelps' gang must be hard-up for some attention.

The only thing that would have been better than this is if the media had ignored it. Don't feed the trolls.

"Right to express it"

Put it this way I can't stand that neo ****, skinheads or KKK but they have a right to express their views even the sick ones. I consider WBC no better than these sick groups

They provoke people, and then sue when they are attacked. The idiotic hate message distracts people from the fact that they are essentially a for-profit group masquerading as a church. The family that runs the thing are lawyers, and they feed the worst stereotypes about the profession.
