Has anyone here ever used a halotron or Halon fire extinguisher?

If you've personally used one, or have been in the immediate area when one was used, could you post up or PM me? I have a question about those specific extinguishers. I should specify the handheld types of halon/halotron extinguishers.

...extinguisher in to your local fire department. These types are detrimental to the ozone and there are better types available for the mass market nowadays.

Halon is now only used by gov'ts to protect essential services such as aviation or computer networks during a fire. It's claim to fame is there is no damaging residue in the suppression of fire.

I think its been banned for general use for quite a while now.

Yes, I was a fireman for 7 years. What would you like to know about them?

How loud are they when you are dispersing the liquid? Something like a garden hose? High pressure garden hose?

I want to have an idea of how loud they are for my novel.

I've got a few fairly heavily armed smugglers in a shipping container that need to be eliminated by the crew of the ship who have no weapons. I'm going to give them pretty heavy doses of Valium inside their meals, and then use the halotron extinguishers that the crew gets from the bridge of the ship to suffocate them, if the extinguishers aren't too loud.

The obvious answer is that if I can't find out how loud they are on the internet, then my readers probably aren't either. However, I'm fairly anal about details such as these and I detest being wrong if I can do the research to get the right information.

They are about the same as any aerosol can. Slight whistle sometimes, nothing loud.

Funny thing is I had been around Halon for 7 years in the Military. We had them for the Apache Helicopters never had to use one though.

They also have two canisters inside the walk way area to put out fires near the engines and transmission etc. They have connections to a fire handle inside the **** pitt but that is for when they are flying.
