The Eagles come out firing on all cylinders and both teams play to a draw leaving....

...the game to be decided by Akers versus Suisham.

I get the feeling that field position, clock management and timeout management may play a bigger role in this game than we expect.

A missed FG here or there may be the eventual point decider. These are two divisional rivals who have seen everything under the sun with each other over the past three years the staffs have been together. (Except Jim Johnson)

A betting man would have to think rationally and expect a tight game.

if it comes down to Akers vs. Suisham then we are going to lose. Akers is one of the league's best. Suisham was available.

...is going to have to be prepared to get Suisham closer than what they would typically expect.

He has missed from close in with Washington and the 30 yarder with us, but you have to take him out of the equation as much as possible by giving him chip shots.

As for Akers field position in the 4th qrt may be the difference in us winning or losing.

McBriar, if he punts in the 4th qrt, is going to have to put his best performance to date yet to nullify Jackson and make McNabb march down the field to the 35.

I would have to say if the ball is placed anywhere from the 40 and in Akers may be automatic.

I would be shocked if this is not a nail-biter. The Eagles were picked ahead of us by almost everyone preseason, midseason , and to some degree, even now. Many feel they have better talent and they are more playoff experienced...all we have to do is pull all of the old articles at the start of the season to confirm this.

But we have played them well this season, and I think we find a way to pull it out. Hopefully we rattle McNabb and get some turnovers. All facets of the kicking game could be key too.

...the size of the Giants opener shows up for this game and cheers the team on.

One doesn't want to leave anything to chance. Bring on the 12th man, have Brooking pump the team up, put the cheerleaders in their skimpiest outfits in front of the Eagles bench.

Leave no stone unturned in the attempt to beat the Eagles.

It wont come down to kickers. The ball will be in Tony's hands to make a play. Scramble, improvise, roll out what have you.

I dont believe they would put it on the kicker. Similar to Parcells a few years ago with Vanderchunk.

I would agree...but then again I do recall both kickers missing a FG during that last game. Oddly enough when Akers missed that one, it was at that time I finally told myself we were going to win the game and had no fear of a come back.

...and you are at the 24 yard line tied or down by two points you would let Tony throw it?

As much as I hate seeing kickers miss FGs I would have to go with Suisham's leg and go for the kick.

Up until the very last play of the game you can keep the ball off the kicker's leg, but on a final play to win the game at a supposed makeable distance you have to go with the bigger percentage play.

I hear you and agree, but losing by a missed FG is soooo painful.

Side note....I saw this poor East Carolina kicker miss 4 easy fgs vs Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl after his team totally dominated that game in all areas. The team kept driving down for easy FGs (vs being aggressive for the TD) for the win (because Ark could barely even get a 1st down on offense). Then they'd watch the kicker keep missing. That was painful to watch.

No, but I have thought about this.

Dallas comes out with Colombo as the right tackle and Free as a tight end outside of him. Then they play an unbalanced line and blow the smaller Eagles off the ball time and again. They manage the clock. Score somewhere in the vicinity of 28-31 points and move on to Minnesota.

More to the truth, I avoided thinking about it.
Garrett and Co. had better plan to be as effective as possible and negate the need to rely on Suisham.

I absolutely expect this to be a FG game. I was thinking this morning that, as opposed to coming down to FG kickers, somehow RW is going to be involved. I don't want bad karma, but wouldn't it just be a kick in the gut if, late in the game, there is a pick 'cause RW runs the wrong rout or another ball clanks off his hands! Knocking on wood right now.

Like you, I think we could see some of that. That would be very interesting, and likely, very successful.

Yes. And it causes me nightmares. You MUST have a reliable kicker in the playoffs. The teams are just too even. I have no confidence in Suisham because he's proved he can miss from chip shot distance.

...if Buehler can hit the chip shots?

It may be more feasible to give the easy kicks to the kicker who is carrying the most confidence.

A 25 yard kick may be an adventure for Suisham, but nothing for Buehler if he has the right stroke, timing and more importantly...confidence.

Save the plus 35 yarders for Suisham.
