I have been having the issue with my PC lately. It appears that something is using up all my CPU resources and causing my PC to border on freezing and/or run VERY slow. It doesn't appear to be related to any sort of infection, at least there is no indication of that. My resource monitor shows that something is grabbing up all the CPU intermitantly. When I looked at my system resource manger to see what is running, it doesn't indicate that the CPU is using anything to an inordinate degree. I'm stumped.

It all seem to start when I downloaded a zip file blog template from WordPress.org to be uploaded to my Go Daddy host. I never installed any WordPress items on my PC.

What do you guys think?

Are there any tools that I can download to diagnose and correct the problem?

What operating system are you using? XP, Vista, windows 7?

Are you on cable internet or the like where it stays online when your machine is on?

If so are you running a program that is keeping an open connection to your godaddy site?

Also if you are using a file sharing program such as limewire and it is in your system tray (by your clock)...It might mean that you have files on your computer that is sharing and other people are downloading from you.

Just a couple of things to consider.

typically in these types of situations, you want to not wipe your bum for a week or so, so as to let the **** cake on there real good.

Download a standalone (no install, just an executable) application called "Process Explorer". It's a better "Task Manager".

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.as

Start it by double clicking on the executable.

Go to the View menu and select "Select Columns".

Go to the "Process Image" tab and select "Image Path" and "Company Name".

Now check your processes for anything suspicious looking, like processes that have no company name or processes you've never heard of and watch the "CPU" column.

If there are, run a malware scan like others have suggested. I've used the free "Spy Bot Search & Destroy".
