I have Firefox V. 11.0. Most of the time when I turn on my laptop and I open the browser, it never connects. It says "Go to a website" in the address bar. The icon keeps spinning like it is going to connect but it never does. When I shut it down and try to reopen it, it says "Firefox is till running, please close it." or something to that affect. Anyone have any idea what the issue is? I can connect with another browser (Opera) but prefer Firefox.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is generally due to a corrupt profile.

Uninstall Firefox, and then delete your profile.

On XP it will be something like C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xkdjhgs.default.

You might have to unhide system files to see the Application Data directory.

If you have Win7, it will be under C:\Users\username\...

Make sure the app is no longer showing up in Task Manager. Then reinstall Firefox and you should be good to go.

Backup / export any bookmarks you want to keep first.

Might have a different proxy setting in your network connection settings. Sometimes some trojans/virues will change the settings in some browsers but not in others. That's why it is always a good idea IMO to have more than one browser on your computer.

However you could always completely remove the program, re download it and do a fresh install.

Click the wrench on the right side of the address Then Bookmarks->Bookmarks Manager.

Click the down arrow next to "Organize" and click Export Bookmarks to HTML file.

Click Import to HTML File once you've reinstalled Firefox to re-import them.

Probably the same as Win7. (C:\Users\Username)

I can't find the profile. I go to users\usernames but when I go to documents there is nothing that says Mozilla or firefox since i deleted it.

What did you delete?

Anyway, you have to be able to see files hidden by Windows.

This link will show you have to make hidden files visible in Vista.

btw, it should be something like C:\Users\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles or something like that. It's "Application Data" that Windows hides. You have to be able to see it to go into it from the GUI.

Did all of that and there is still nothing that says Application data. I deleted the firefox program anyway. Then went and reinstalled it and all the bookmarks was still there in the new installation. I'm confused now.

It may not have deleted some data.

The important thing now is...are you still having the same problem as before.

If not...good.

If so, backup the bookmarks.

Delete the program.

Find, download and install a program called CCleaner (get the free version)

And use the clean registry portion of the program.

Then download, re install and hopefully that will fix the problem.

You have to delete your old profile.

Follow this to help you find your Profile. Then delete them and restart Firefox
