Here's why I'm feeling more positive about the Cowboys

I've been discouraged about the Cowboys for years, but my hopes are turning around this season. Other than the painful disaster that happened in Detroit, my feelings continue to be positive this season. Here's why:

- I've accepted the fact that Tony Romo is the next Brett Favre. He'll never be Troy Aikman or Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but Brett Jr. is better than most of the QB's in the league. He's a very good second tier QB, right below Brady, Rodgers, Manning, & Brees, but he's far from a "manager." Being a gun slinger like Brett, he will break your heart sometimes when a risk goes bad, but he'll also blow you away by pulling a miracle out of his butt. My hope is that, like Favre, he will become more consistent as he matures.

- Jason Garrett. I like him, and I think he will grow as a head coach. I think he will learn and continue to get better. His hiring of Rob Ryan was a bold move that is paying off. He'll continue to improve, and get better at putting Romo in the best possible position to succeed.

- I was very glad that we dumped all the tired old veterans who made big bucks but had bad attitudes. I like that our OL is a bunch of hard working kids. Sure, some of them may not be a long term solution, but it's moving in the right direction. Garrett is changing the culture of the team, which desperately needed to happen. This is not a quick fix, but a long term project. Maybe Jerry is finally being broken of his penchant for paying big bucks for aging stars. Lord I hope so.

- Genuine young stars are rising. Foremost among them is Sean Lee. I'm amazed at what he has become overnight. What a great player and leader for the team. He already appears to be better than James or Brooking ever were. I'm very excited about his emergence. HUGE.

- Another young star is Demarco Murray. I believe we saw a star blinking on the horizon tonight that I hope is going to be very big for the Boys.

- Tyron Smith - Moving to LT next season, and will be a fixture there for years to come. A great first round pick and future All-Pro.

- Though I'm not convinced he will have the staying power to be a long term consistent star, I'm hopeful about Dez Bryant. He could go either way, but the potential is obviously incredible.

So there you have it. I don't expect us to go to the Super Bowl this year, but I think we are headed in the right direction. I haven't felt that way in a long time.

Brees is not particularly less mistake prone than Romo. I would argue he is far worse because he makes as many mistakes despite having a better OL, a better running game and more good WRs.

I would take Romo over any of the standard second tier guys. Once you factor in things like supporting casts and ability to play in the clutch and improvise big plays Romo stands out in this group. I would put Brees, Rivers, Rothlisbeger and Matt Ryan as the second tier QBs. I think you can win a SB with any of these guys if the team around them is good enough.

To me the first tier right now is only Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

You put Tom Brady behind our OL and even he will not look anything like "Tom Brady".

Agreed.

Our line still sucks, nothing has changed. Just because we ran over the Lambs today means jack, they are the worst rushing defense in the NFL.

Lets see this oline run block and pass protect next week in Philly. They do it on the road, at night, against a division rival in a hostile environment and then I will start to give them props.

Put Tom Brady behind our OL and we would be undefeated right now.

So what should we or perhaps could we have done to impress you this weekend?

I know the Rams run D sucks, but their pass rush and pass D is pretty good. Either way, it's not like teams were averaging 294 rushing on them.
