HH31's Dallas Cowboys season breakdown/predictions

And Dallas doesnt have one of the best motivators in football? Look, the fact is Washington beat Dallas so badly at home last year is becuse Dallas was missing 5 starters and 2 key reserves. IMO, Dallas is simply the better team this year.

Of course your opinion is that Dallas is the better team. I mean, there's no way that your biased in this case, right? Anyways, I'm just saying that it's not likely that either team will sweep. They are just too close.

Ware got 8 sacks a year ago as a rookie, better than almost every great current OLB had in their rookie year. It's a great possibility he gets 12+ sacks, he will be a star in this league very quickly.

No, it's not a great possibility that he gets 12+ sacks. No one is going to underestimate him, and while he will get better, he will also be accounted for.

Who gets in over Atlanta? Tampa Bay? Arizona? Any of the garbage North teams? Washington might, but I doubt the NFC East manages 3 playoff teams.

Tampa Bay, Arizona and Washington are all more balanced then Atlanta and I would pick them over the Falcons 2 outta 3 times.

He was plenty accounted for last season, and managed 8 sacks ina rookie campaign. There was noone providing pass rush from our base set besides him, consistently.

being accounted for is not going to be a surprise going into this year.

And you dont think that Strahan, Freeney, Peppers, Taylor, etc arent accounted for?

Week 8: Dallas @ Carolina

their explosive offense will overwhelm Dallas who is not quite on that elite level yet.

Prediction: 30-10 Carolina

Exposive? They were 22nd in the NFL in O last year. I do beleive Key will help but I'm not sure he'll make them explosive.

Ware's and Newman's INT numbers might be a little high, but this looks pretty credible to me. Good job.

DeShaun Foster was also injured a good portion of last season, not to mention they got DeAngelo Williams in the draft.

Manning against 3-4 defenses in 2005:

820 yards, 7 TDs, 2 INTs, 104.8 QB rating
in the regular season....

He has traditonally struggled mightily against 3-4 defenses.
Edgerrin was a big factor against the 3-4 defenses last season. He had 88 yards against Balt, 120 plus against the Steelers in the regular season.

Anyone expecting the Colts to score 30 on defense against this Dallas 3-4 must be counting on the Colts defense forcing turnovers.

I would give Dallas the edge in that game.

My problem with this is that you have us going 5-1 in the NFC East. Nobody in the division can pull that off. I'd say optimistically 4-2, but 3-3 is a very real possibility. We'll either drop one against the Skins or the Eagles or both.

And in accounting for Ware, that will open things up significantly for other members of the defense. I know we're talking about Ware's stats, and so what you say does carry some weight... I'm just saying that when teams start obsessing about stopping Ware, that's when Carpenter opposite him and the DE beside him will have opportunities. And really, that's a huge part of a defenses success and a star players impact... things they open up for their team mates.

Even though Ware will indeed be accounted for... like someone else said, he was accounted for last season and did pretty well for a small school rookie playing a new position. This year, he won't be coming from a small school as his last playing experience and he won't be playing a new position, with a defense that is playing a new scheme with a defensive coordinator who is coaching that new scheme for the first time. He won't have a nobody playing opposite him at SOLB and he won't have the D-Line consisting of 2 rookies out of the 3 linemen. He won't have Shanle or Fowler playing next to him, he'll have Ayodele, which is quite the upgrade.

To sum it up: He should show quite a bit of improvement in his second year in the league.

I'm still not sure that Foster will make them explosive. Williams hasnt even stepped on the field yet and that makes them exposive? I see nothing that makes their O explosive as a team. Smith is explosive but thats just on player.

And I don't think Demarcus Ware will get 12 sacks, I think it will be around 10. If he's lucky.

hey this isn't Phillip Daniels and Andre Carter we're talking about...

Week 1: Dallas @ Jacksonville

The Jags are a solid young team but lack the playmakers Dallas has in TO, Glenn and Witten. The Jags have a slight edge in the trenches and its possible Bill Parcells plays this one too close to his vest. Still its hard to imagine the Jags corners doing much with Glenn and TO.

Prediction: 24-16 Dallas

Week 2: Washington @ Dallas

Dallas gets another early season Skin matchup and this time they won't take it as a guaranteed win where they play conservative ball. Should be a good early season contest pitting healthy teams. Figure Dallas can muster enough revenge-minded angst to win at home.

Prediction: 13-10 Dallas

Week 3: Bye

Week 4: Dallas @ Tennessee

Tennessee put up the for sale sign on this season when they traded away McNair. Dallas should romp after the bye. What a useless time for a Bye.

Prediction: 31-10 Dallas

Week 5: Dallas @ Philadelphia

TO visits the Linc. Pandemonium ensues. It will only make TO play better. Dallas has thehuge mental edge as its TO versus the Eagles while Dallas schemes ways to get Witten and Glenn free.

Prediction: 27-17 Dallas

Week 6: Houston @ Dallas

Dallas is getting great breaks from the schedule makers. Houston is simply not very good and gettign them at home kills the home crowds hatred.

Prediction: 28-13 Dallas

Week 7: New York @ Dallas

Dallas is rolling along but NY presents a real challenge with that DL. I expect the Giants to steal one here.

Prediction: 17-16 NY

Week 8: Dallas @ Carolina

Dallas matches up quite well with Carolina. They have shown they can take Steve Smith out of the game and KJ will move some chains but he scares no one. Unless their rushing offense is vastly improved they won't be as good as predicted but I am afraid it will.

Prediction: 22-20 Panthers

Week 9: Dallas @ Washington

The Skins should be using some depth players now and might feel the heat against other teams but they'll be ready to face the Boys at home.

Prediction: 18-14 Wash

Week 10: Dallas @ Arizona

Zona will present a stiff passing game test but their running game is nstill questionable even with Edge James and you can score at will on them. We'll simply make more big plays.

Prediction: 34-24 Dallas

Week 11: Indianapolis @ Dallas

This is a game most folks give away but at home facing a team without Edge James it might not be so nasty. I think Dallas can pressure Peyton while scoring enough points to win.

Prediction: 30-27 Dallas

Week 12: Tampa Bay @ Dallas

Turkey Day versus the Bucs. Dallas has been good on Turkey Day but the Bucs prevent a still challenge after an emotional win against the Colts.

Pediction: 24-17 Tampa

Week 13: Dallas @ New York

I suspect the Giants will have fallen to bickering about Eli's accuracy by now. Burress and the crew are not great team players and when pressure builds it will show.

Prediction: 28-14 Dallas

Week 14: New Orleans @ Dallas

Dallas waltzes over a bad NO team but coach a conversative game so final score is definitely an under.

Prediction: 20-10 Dallas

Week 15: Dallas @ Atlanta

ATL is getting lots of media love but I will buy it once I see them really perform as an offense under Mora Jr.

Prediction: 23-14 Dallas

Week 16: Philadelphia @ Dallas

Eags should be playing much better than the previous year but age at key spots(DE/LB) is taking its toll. I'd still expect them to play this game like its their Super Bowl and find a way to win.

Prediction: 23-21 Philly

Week 17: Detroit @ Dallas

Another game Dallas should win easily but will probbaly keep close.
Prediction: 20-13 Dallas

Season Stats:

Julius Jones: 1,119 yards, 8 TDs

TO: 85 catches, 1,254 yards, 13 TDs

Terry Glenn: 61 catches, 1,024 yards, 5 TDs

Jason Witten: 66 catches, 812 yards, 8 TDs

Drew Bledsoe: 4012 yards, 32 TDs, 16 INTs

DeMarcus Ware: 54 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 3 FF, 1 INTs

Roy Williams: 89 tackles, 2 sacks, 5 FF, 4 INTs, 4 players sent off the field for the game.

Terence Newman: 62 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, 18 passes defensed, 8 INTs, 3 TDs (NFL Defensive MVP)---heck I liked htis one so much I am keeping in tact HH--

New England has owned Manning for the past several years - 3-4 defense

San Diego harrassed him all day en route to handing the Colts their first defeat of the season - 3-4 defense

Pittsburgh spanked him and the Colts out of the playoffs. The crybaby could do nothing against them - 3-4 defense

Manning has typically played poorly against 3-4 defenses.

Don't forget that Bledsoe has owned Manning as well in their head to head match ups, I believe he's 9-3 against him lifetime going back to Drew's days with the Pats and Bills. They haven't played since 2003, and the colts barely beat the bills in that game even though they weren't a very good team.

People continue to give Manning way too much credit, especially when The Answer believes the Colts are going to pull a philly this year and flop big time. Manning and the colts are sub .500 lifetime without Edgerrin James in the lineup, and Harrison's a year older and his numbers have been average the last few years anyway. Also the colts 14-2 record came against the easiest schedule in the league, and their defense showed it's true colors in the playoff loss against the steelers.

We will likely beat them handily when they visit Big D....
