The numbers say that, eventually, rookie QBs look like rookies in the playoffs no matter how good they’re supporting cast. And even among the best rookie performers, the drop in QB rating once you hit the divisional round is dramatic. The average QB rating for rookies in the divisional and conference championship round in the SB era is an abysmal 69.8, and no rookie QB has ever won more than two playoff games. Only a few have won one, most win none.

At some point Brock Purdy is going to look like a 7th round rookie. History says that will either be against us or in the championship round. We can only hope it’s next week.

Didn’t Roethlisberger make the Super Bowl his rookie year? Was that as a 1 or 2 seed?

What about Brady?

I’ve been saying for a while that eventually Purdy‘s inexperience will catch up with him. hopefully it will show up in this game. It’s going to come down to our defense, putting pressure on him and forcing him to play outside his comfort zone. Obviously we’re going to have to stop McCafferty.

Since the year of the season rolls into the next year for the play-offs, I'd like to remind everyone the 1992 Dallas Cowboys went to San Francisco and were the underdogs. They beat the 9ers and went to the Super Bowl, which they won.

They played these play-off games in January of 1993. Thirty years ago.
