CANTON - Pro football at Fawcett Stadium is moving back to Sunday night, and the effects are being felt throughout the week leading up to the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony.

The National Football League on Thursday announced that the AFC-NFC Hall of Fame Game will be played Aug. 6 on NBC. The annual preseason kickoff had been a part of ABC’s "Monday Night Football" package for the last three years.

As a result, the Ribs Burnoff is set for Wednesday through Friday of that week, while the Timken Grand Parade and the enshrinement ceremony return to a back-to-back Saturday lineup last seen in 2002.

Joe Horrigan, Hall of Fame vice president for communications, said the hall had plans in place for both contingencies.
"Having the game on Sunday just moves everything up a day," Horrigan said. "It looks a little more like it used to when we had everything back-to-back-to-back in a tight package."

The Timken Grand Parade kicks off in downtown Canton at 7:30 a.m., while the Class of 2006 — Troy Aikman, John Madden, Warren Moon, Harry Carson, Rayfield Wright and the late Reggie White — will be inducted at 1 p.m. at Fawcett Stadium.

Other changes include moving the Enshrinees Dinner to Friday evening, the downtown concert and fireworks to Saturday evening and the Enshrinees GameDay Roundtable to Sunday afternoon.

"We have known for several months that there was a potential for the game date to change, so festival and hall leadership brainstormed various options so that we would be ready," festival director Joanne Murray said in a press release.

The teams and kickoff time for the Hall of Fame game has not been announced. An announcement on both are expected in March.
Horrigan said the Dallas Cowboys seem a "logical" choice with the induction of Aikman and Wright in this year’s class. The Cowboys last played in Canton in 1999, serving as the opponent in the return of the Cleveland Browns.

I agree. Hope we can have a sticky with this type of info.

I've already booked my hotel. Just waiting on ticket info (make sure I can get tickets) before I do my airline stuff.

Anyone been there before? Care to share any of your experiences?

i've been there but it's been like 10 years. i've never been to the game or an enshrinement though.

crap...maybe i should book a hotel room now, too. did you get a good deal?

I booked at a hotel in Canton. Prices are what you'd expect for that weekend. The sooner you get a room the better.

Other nearby area to book a hotel:

North Canton- 2 miles from HOF
Massillon- about 10 miles from HOF
Fairlawn- about 20 miles
Akron- 15 miles
Strasburg/Dover- 20-25 miles

And as stated before, the all get booked within a 30 mile radius, so don't delay, even if you have to cancel later.

Fly into Akron/Canton airport if at all possible, as opposed to Cleveland.

With a marquee team in the game, tickets are rough to come by. 20000 capacity I think? I have bought tickets at face value at the game.

The induction is by admission now also, since they moved it inside of Fawcett Stadium. Plenty of availability for that, seeing as there are no Steelers being inducted for a change.

Like any museum, you can spend whatever amount of time you'd like in there. And I'm not big on museums. The NFL Theatre is an absolute must inside the Hall though.

There are plenty of activities on the grounds and in the surrounding area for like 4 days. My favorite experiences are those of running into all the retired athletes as they make their rounds.

Will post more info as it comes available in the next few months.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

Any and all information you can post is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

FYI...
I've been pricing airline tickets. For those with a tight budget, like me. Flying into Cleveland may save you some $$$$$$. But it's an hour drive to Canton.

Jackrussell, how's the traffic on 77 from Cleveland to Canton?

When you know some shortcuts, it's not a problem at all. (I-77 in Canton is under some major construction, and I don't know the timetable on completion. Hopefully, the new HOF bridge and corridor will be completed)

From Cleveland Hopkins:

South on I 71 to Rte. 18 East to I-77 South Canton.

Where are the best chances to run into them?

Do you know which hotel all the HOFers stay in? I'd like to try to hit it and try to get som autographs.
