Dolphins | Hoffman hired
Tue, 13 Feb 2007 09:22:15 -0800

USAToday.com reports the Miami Dolphins have hired Steve Hoffman as their assistant special teams coach. Hoffman served in the same capacity with the Atlanta Falcons last year.

Have fun with this one kids.....

Maybe he can help Mare get right. He sure needs it after last year.

This probably means Mare is gone.

Teams don't hire Hoffman to make their kickers better. They hire him to go dig up cheap options.

:hammer: Mare's name has been on the cutting block all year long

That is actually a true statement.

Parcells hated him... but he made bad kickers good.

Maybe he'll be brought in to coach Special Teams. He's currently Asst. Special Teams at Atlanta, so he can be brought in because it would be a promotion.

Him or Coach Joe.

Opinions?

Did BP go on record saying that he didn't like Hoffman, or is that just your opinion? I don't think it was anything personal, but he just wanted his own guy.

As for Hoffman, I thought he did a great job during his tenure w/ the Cowboys. He did seem to have a knack for turning a bunch of no names into solid kickers. If we bring Grammatica back, I don't think there's much need for Hoffman. But then again, if we eventually let McBriar kickoff, then maybe he'd be of service.

And our ST was pretty good last year (imo). Who was the coach? Is he still on the staff? I'm not sure if coach Joe can bring anything more to the table. If Wade brings in one of his guys to coach the LBs, the maybe Pasqualoni can take over the ST duties? I dunno.

He didn't bring in anybody to replace hoffman....... Hoffman was the kickers coach and Parcells fired him and didn't replace him, something along the lines of having a coach for a kicker is useless/pointless and he'd never had one before. (that's just basically what was said those aren't anybody's actual words)

also on a side note, Hoffman was hired by Vanderjagt his last year with the colts to be his personal kicking coach... so maybe he isn't the best of options afterall..... Here's a link if you don't believe me, lolZ http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/8648512

Sweet jeebus, neither one. This team needs to hire people that are actually good coaches and not just guys Jerry is "comfortable" with, which was probably the case with Dat.

Yeah, he waved his magic wand and made bad kickers good, but only when dressed in a full leprechaun wardrobe.

someone did a statistical rundown on the average FG made % of all the kickers hoffman coached while here- and they with a few exceptions did no better then the NFL average. BP basically was not convinced that he was worth the money and they dumped him. It took a full year before any team hired him; so maybe that gives you an idea of his worth. He did seem to develope some decent kickers - but no great ones. pass.
