Holmes case closed after police report released

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 30, 2010 2:16 PM ET
PFT has received a copy of the incident report from the Orlando Police Department related to Santonio Holmes' alleged battery on March 7.

The police say the case is now closed due to the victim's declination to prosecute Holmes at the time of the incident.

One aspect of the report stands out. After Holmes and the woman now suing Holmes in a civil case told their stories to the police, the woman asked to speak to Holmes alone.

"She then asked this officer if she could speak to Holmes alone. I said yes and Holmes agreed to speak with her. They then walked several feet away from me and had a conversation. This officer observed Mills smiling and rubbing Holmes face just moments after walking off together. Five minutes later the two returned and Mills advised this officer that they had resolved the matter and that she did not wish to press charges or get Holmes into any trouble. Mills had a small abrasion that was less than 1/4' over her right eye. She refused medical attention. Mills wrote a sworn written statement in which she declined to prosecute."

I'm convinced a Steeler could rob a Pittsburgh bank at gunpoint, wearing his jersey, and somehow it would all go away.

If that had been Mike Irvin, the story would have read, "Seconds after Holmes' girlfriend reported Holmes to the police on charges of Battery, Holmes was seen walking off with an unidentified women and proceeded to offer her money."

No justice. :laugh2:

The lost the city thing might be an exaggeration, but where's there's smoke..

Most Steelers players are "detached" regarding Roethlisberger's troubles
Posted by Mike Florio on March 30, 2010 6:59 AM ET

With the Steelers convening for offseason workouts and 25 reporters reportedly swarming the facility, ESPN's Rachel Nichols says during the morning SportsCenter loop that one Pittsburgh player said he's "frustrated" by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's off-field issues, one player defended him vigorously, and the bulk of them were "more detached."

Said defensive end Aaron Smith to a group of reporters, "I think that most of the guys here just want to play football and get on with the games. Whatever goes on in your personal life is your personal problems. . . . Honestly, most of the stuff that goes on outside of here doesn't affect us."

Safety Ryan Clark told Nichols that there can be no distraction at this stage of the offseason. "It would be different is this was midseason, but what am I distracted from right now, lifting weights?" Clark said. "Right now, our concern is just for Ben and the young woman involved."

The fact that Clark has openly expressed concern for the "young woman involved" is a dramatic departure from last year's overt attack on Ben's Nevada accuser. Said linebacker James Harrison at the time, "He explained his side and we believe in our quarterback and it's just a frivolous situation where someone is trying to make some money. And that's all that is. You can't even print what I'd like to say."

It could be that Clark is reacting to the second accusation in the same way that many fans are -- by wondering whether both can be made up.

And those fans haven't been bashful about sharing their concerns. Long-time Pittsburgh broadcaster Stan Savran tells Gary Mihoces of USA Today that "[a]lmost 100 percent" of the fans "have kind of lined up against" Roethlisberger. Said long-time NFL agent and Pittsburgh resident Ralph Cindrich, "I don't think there's any question that Ben has lost the city. The Rooney family is just on hold trying to see what the facts are. But there isn't a bank of goodwill that Ben has to go to."

That bank of goodwill definitely doesn't exist among most fans. And by all appearances it may be drying up among his teammates, too.
