I travel a lot so I'm subscribed to a lot of travel deal newsletters. I ran across this hotel deal and just thought I would pass this along to anyone going to SA for training camp. 4 star hotel (Crowne Plaza Riverwalk) on the river walk for $85 a night (typically >$200) all through July and August. Must be booked before July 13th.

I already booked somewhere else for July 24-25, but maybe I can still change it.

Thanks Inman.

TravelZoo is a staple of my wife's travel plans diet. :laugh2:

As for Crowne Plaza being a AAA 4-Diamond hotel. I have yet to find a truly luxury hotel. I'm not bashing it, I just don't consider it a real luxury hotel. It is a good hotel to stay in though.

Hmm...seems not very close to the Riverwalk. And it's rated pretty low on tripadvisor.com

Still, hard to beat $85 a night. Anyone with a clue as to if this place is a dump?

Their site says the hotel is 0 miles from the Riverwalk and 1 mile from the Alamodome.

I'm not that familiar with the area, but I do know that the parts of the Riverwalk that I have been to (and the restaurant that I want to go to) are a decent hike away.

I HIGHLY recommend the Drury Plaza...

It's on the upper end of the Riverwalk and is really cool and close to the Alamo Dome...

Used to be a bank and they kept the feel. Check-in is teller windows.

The rooms are giant and have multiple flat screen TV's...

Free breakfast and cocktails every day...

Pool on the roof, great city view in the hot tub...

The Alamo Dome is like you said, not close at all to the River Walk. To be perfectly candid, if I'm at the Alamo Dome and someone wants to go to the River Walk, we're driving at least to the River Center Mall parking garage.

I haven't made it down there in a few weeks. Been hurting for Boudro's salmon bruschetta.

The Alamodome is less than a mile from the base of the Riverwalk. The city planners made it so that the Riverwalk, surrounding hotels, Gonzales Convention Center, Tower of Americas and Alamodome are all withing walkin distance of each other, that's why they attract so many conventions and events. I've found driving or walking to/from the Alamodome to the Riverwalk basically takes about the same amount of time. (Driving involves walking to your car, get out of the parking lot, sit at the Commerce/I-37 traffic lights, navigate downtown congestion and find a new place to park). It's just a matter of preference/comfort. But while training camp practices are free, the Alamodome does charge $5-$7 to park ... maybe more or les now, I haven't been to TC in a few years. I also can't remember if that's per day or per practice.

That's the place I was referencing. Nice little restaurant. We went ahead and booked the Crowne Plaza. It may be a small hike, but it's less than half the price of the other places I was considering.
