Houston Awarded 2013 NBA All Star Game

Most entertaining event during the all star weekend is the skills challenge.

I don't think it blows. I find the dunk contest and the ASG very entertaining to watch.

The dunk contest is really lame now, I can't believe all the hype dude got for dunking over the hood of a Kia. It was commercialism at its worst and ESPN played right into it. They dunks aren't good anymore, it is all about who can make the biggest spectacle.

I've gone to two All-Star Weekends. The one in Houston and the one in Vegas. At both, I enjoyed the NBA jam session. It's great for basketball fans and very family-friendly. At the Houston one, I got a chance to go to the Celebrity b-ball game. At the Vegas one, I rolled up on the D-league game.

I avoided all the parties and still had a good time in both places.

Interesting that they brought it to Houston again in such a short time.

I don't think seven years is that short of time. It seems places like Miami and New Orleans get it every three years.

Houston hasn't done anything to warrant another All-Star game so soon.......

San Antonio hasn't had it since the mid 90s......we are one of the top 2 teams in the league since hosting it, along with the Lakers......but I am ok with us not having one. I mean it would be nice to see Tim be able to host an All-Star game....but if not, no worries.

I wonder if OKC will get one soon.

It honestly is a short time. The all star game hasnt been to Miami since 1990. San Antonio hasnt seen one since 1996. Chicago since 88. I can name several other examples. I'm surprised Chicago and Miami hasn't seen the game even though they have newer arenas. Heck, NY hasn't seen it since 98. I expect that to change. Its just odd though seeing as how Houston isnt known for you to get around so easily unless you have a car and its not known as a party mecca. The only city that has held it twice so far this century is LA.

Maybe I'm thinking about the super bowl then.

Either way, I guess I don't consider 7 years that quick a turnaround.

But except for the weather, the last All-star weekend really wasn't that bad.

They've added more entertainment venues downtown, Discovery Green, and two new rail lines are expected to be complete sometime this year.

At this point, if everyone knows you need transportation to get around, then it's no longer a surprise. You either stay in the Galleria area or Downtown.
