How about some love for Bruce Carter?

He's been playing really well. It's just concerning because I definitely remember times in his career, and even this season, where he just seems aloof. Little effort. That's concerning because he is playing for a contract right now, if he's resigned does he go back to taking plays off knowing he has some security?

That's the big question. His talent is undeniable, if he had Crawford's motor he'd probably be an All-Pro. It'll be interesting the # the market places his value.

i agree ...but he really is showing up of late.

Mincey and Crawford are our best defensive players right now.

#54 has been playing great and is a leader on that defense. The whole LBer group has pretty much been 'plug-and-play' - way more than I expected from them at the outset of this season.

I think you let him test free agency and match his best offer, which likely won't be high. He's done nothing but show glimpses and other teams aren't going to reward glimpses.

He'll probably take the match offer or a home-town discount to stay on a winning team that will be trying to repeat a SB win.

We are going to have to make some decisions next year on our linebacker staff because so many players have played good at least through stretches. Hitchens is staying, McClain should easily be resigned (he likes it here in Dallas and I don't think he wants to risk going elsewhere after his history, certainly not for just money), Lee is staying. Beyond that Carter and Durant (before he got hurt) have both made cases why they should be here. Wilber in minimal time is a cheap decent backup. Do we keep all 6 of those guys?

I believe we will lose one of them.....preferably Wilber of course, but I think it will be one of the top 5 we lose. I would really like to hold onto all 5 though cause all can have a role. Lee and Carter would look really good in the nickel together, love to have two ballhawking LBs out there on passing downs. Durant is a jack of all trades, and really has done well wherever we have put him.

We can afford to lose one of them, not 2 of them though if that 2 doesn't include Wilber.

I've been critical of carter especially when he came back from that quad injury. He did not look like the same player we saw early in the yr.
Great to see him turn it around these last few weeks. This week may be his biggest test yet and he will need to have a good game to slow down that Green Bay attack.

My tiers are Lee, then Ro and Durant, then Carter, then Hitchens, and followed by Wilbur. You keep Lee and pray he stays healthy. You can't ignore his history but his talent is too great. Here's his contract info:

If Lee can be productive and stay on the field then he's worth the above. If he gets injured enough again I'd make him decide on an incentive laden contract. in fact I'd be thinking about doing that now although his cap hit next year ain't bad....if he plays.

I don't see Ro going anywhere and his next contract might have a little extra and I'd think about some incentives for him as well.

I really like Durant. Here's his contract. He'll need to be reupped but I don't see a problem with a modest contract.

I'd try and resign him. He's likely to command a raise and I'd be inclined to give him a reasonable one.

Wilber is under contract. If you can upgrade then you do so.

Hitchens is under contract and is a keeper.

The problem I have with this is that 3 of these guys will have a significant injury history
Have to have reliable LB s who are there every day

It's definitely a concern. Less so for me with Durant. Not a lot with Ro but I have no idea about Lee. I'd guess he'll do well in 15 but that might just be optimistic.

I still want a fast cover LBer. That could be Carter. Look for a new guy to be brought in for competition. That could be one of the new guys like Watson. Not a bruiser type.

This LBer situation is so frustrating.

We have Lee, a guy who plays like the Defensive Player of the Year when healthy, but has only been healthy for 16 of the last 48 games.

McClain, a guy who came out of college with more hype than any MLB of recent memory, who retired twice and looked like a complete bust, who came to Dallas and gave new life to a desperate defense, who has been either injured or disappeared on the field the past month and a half of the season.

Carter, a guy who shined in the 3-4, then looked like a bust in the 4-3, then gained new life when he switched to SLB, then disappeared again and was definitely not gonna be resigned, and now is playing like our MVP and is making it hard not to resign him.

Durant, who is a hard worker and willing and capable of playing any position, who is a serviceable starter and an excellent backup, who is lost for the season.

Hitchens, who might not have the upside of Carter, Lee or McClain, but who has surprised as a rookie with his fast learning, willingness and devotion to the team, and determination to stay on the field even when hurt.

I was excited when they drafted Carter, he's got that ideal size, strength and speed and has flashed greatness at times. Some guys just take longer to blossom and I think he will be a solid LB, hope they keep him! We need some physical LBs.

Thanks for that memory bursting to the surface and destroying 10,000 neurons which I can't afford to lose. :)

Saved you money by giving you something to destroy your neurons for free...normally that costs you money and is against the law.
