How come the PC hasn't gotten a proper racing sim yet?

Similar to Gran Turismo or Forza?

I mean it has them, but the GFX aren't all that great. That's one thing I miss from my console playing days. An up to date NFL game and a proper racing simulator.

IMO it's because the software companies only have to make the compatible with 3 systems and not the 100's maybe 1000's of different hardware configs for pc's.

There are tons of racing sims out there for PC, have been for years. But they are very focused. Rally, F1, etc. not a big "survey" simulator like Forza or Gran Turismo....but those PC sims are a lot more "real" than you will ever get in a console sim. They are more "proper" than their console brethren.

If you're really into auto sport, F1 and Rally for PC are the best simulators you can get. It has nothing to do with whatever the hell high brow gaming is, it's just true.

However I'll diverge from DIAF in that Forza, at least, is comparable to the best PC sims. As long as you have a wheel and aren't using a controller.

Also OP: the reason they make more sports games for console is because roster updates and the like are way easier on PC and they don't sell yearly units nearly as well (especially once you count PC game piracy into the mix).

Racing games are very available for the PC.

Yeah but I've yet to see a racing sim that comes close to Forza. Like the above poster said, the only ones I can find are too focused.

It's not highbrow, it's the truth. When the OP said "proper", I assumed he meant the most realistic. GT and Forza come up pretty short in the realism and technical accuracy department when compared against the PC sims. Licensing issues are probably what prevent a game like GT or Forza from seeing PC. A pc sim will sell far, far less than a console game will. Thus there's less profit to be made after paying for licenses from all the major and niche automakers.

All the wheels for the xbox are garbage. And the only good wheels for the ps3 are uber-expensive.
