How Do We Pick Up More Picks for Next Year?

We're missing 4th, 5th, and 6th round for next year's draft. The only pick I'm really happy we traded away was the 6th round for Jonathan Hankins. Are we stuck with only 3 4 picks, or is there a chance we'll recoup some of those picks?

Going to be a boring draft which sucks because it’s one of my favorite weekends in sports. At least we can’t take another late round TE. :)

realistically if we are drafting at the bottom of the 1st round i'd trade back (partner willing) to the 2nd and pick up another 3 maybe 4. Now i know people are going to be like we suck at 2nd round picks, but if we view them as starter maybe we dont take flyers on headcases or injured people.

Time and again, especially recently, it's been proven there's talent in all rounds of the draft, and even UDFAs.. it's really about being able to hit in all rounds, in all phases of player acquisition. That's how we ended up with players like Romo, Pollard, Bland, Biadasz, Kearse, Aubrey, Turpin, etc.

Any idea which rounds? This would be one of those years where I really would like to see Jerral Wayne trade down. This draft is loaded, it looks like, so far.
We should at least get a 5 and a 6.

Unless a stud falls to the Cowboys (picking in the 20's) then I'd trade down. If they could get 2 2nds and 2 3rds then I'm doing backflips. 4 picks on day 2 sounds pretty good to me.

I think this is the wrong year to trade down.

Stud OL all over the first round and a bunch of WRs in the late-first, early-second rounds as well. With a low volume of picks anyways so they can't scattershot talent in the later rounds, they should be trying to move back up if there's someone they like, imo.

Trade back to acquire more selections.

I believe the Cowboys don't have their 7th pick either (Hankins trade).

They have their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

NFL.com is projecting two 6th round compensatory picks and overthecap.com is predicting a 5th round and 6th round compensatory picks.

A simple trade down with the first rounder would recoup at least the pick used on Lance.

But if someone slips, gotta make the pick and live with your past decisions.

I do think they left themselves in a tough spot to be able to improve as the deadline approaches by trading picks for players at a time when they could have been had for money only.

We have 2 7th round picks now.
So, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2 7th rounders. Plus probably 2 comp pics - either a 5th and 6th. Or 2 6th rounders.

Same. Even in the 2nd rounds, to trade back into the 4th, and 5th, you can hit on players in those rounds. Some spend a 2nd, ahem, ahem, on guys who get lucky to get a few reps a game. Others find starters in those later rounds. It really is what makes a team good, or bad: the level of scouting you do, and how good your analysis is, regardless of the round.

I take the wins with the losses, or the losses with the wins. However, you want to look at it. That's what good scouts do. Win some; lose some. It's how right you are and how often.

As far as I can see, scouts don't get enough credit. We all credit McClay, but I would like to be a fly on the wall and see the dynamics of how he runs his team.

The ones who go around pointing out how wrong X,Y, Z was on that one or those few picks, are really the football challenged ones.

Do what the Patriots did for a decade. You trade away a decent/good players ONE year early so to get draft picks, so you get better compensation.
