How I'd play this offseason and next season

Mike McCarthy is on the last year of his deal going into 2024 and (barring an extension) so is Dak. So, here's how I'd play this offseason. Obviously, this doesn't mean Jerry will, this is just how I'd do it if Jerry made me GM.

I think we are at a spot where it's time for a rebuild. Let's face it. This team is constructed to play regular season football, but not postseason ball. It is not a physical team. We see this with how we struggle against the run. So, I'd push the rebuild button. My first move would be to trade Micah Parsons. I like Micah. Seriously, I do. However, let's be honest, he probably won't stay past his contract. He even indicated that he might follow DQ if he leaves. So, I'd trade Micah Parsons for at least two or 3 first round picks. I would imagine we can at least get a first this year and next year for him, so let's assume we get that. Next, I would trade Lamb. If AJ Brown can get a first, so can Lamb and maybe more. But, let's assume I were to get a first round pick and an extra 3rd round pick this year for him. Now, I have 3 firsts this year (including our own) and two next year (including our own). Additionally, this clears some cap space. This, of course, signals a rebuild is coming. However, this could be a quick rebuild depending on how things go.
I'd then try to get a bit active in FA. Try to sign some top LBers and DTs. Really focus on becoming more physical. I'd also try to sign Derrick Henry to a deal. He may have taken a step back, but a 1 year deal with what happens in the draft could get him to being a sledgehammer back.

Then comes the draft. If we fire Mike, I let the new coach use the bounty of picks how he sees fit. Maybe use one of them on a QB. Definitely use one on an olineman to start rebuilding the oline. I'd also use one on a LBer. Then, as the draft goes on, get a WR (to replace Lamb), RB, and really build some physicality on this team.

If we keep Mike, I'd use one of the firsts to trade back and get an extra first rounder and maybe more next year so that the likely new coach can have 3 first round picks to play with. Meanwhile, with the 2 remaining firsts this year, I'd draft a tackle (to replace Tyron Smith) and a big run stuffing physical linebacker. Get the best linebacker in the draft so that we aren't getting gashed on the ground anymore. Then, I draft a WR and RB (since we'd have Derrick Henry, this back would be a similar back to Pollard) in the subsequent next two picks. One to replace Lamb and the other to revamp our running game. I'd try to make this team much more physical. I'd keep the quick passing going, but there would be more ability to run the ball and sustain running the ball. I'd then draft another NT. Really clog up that middle. We may take a step back from the 12-5 record, but that's fine. One, we might be able to run the ball and we are building to a new direction. We are building a team that can win on the road and can match physicality for physicality. Plus, I think the NFC East is going to be fairly weak next season anyway. So, we probably go 9-8 and sneak in as a WC pick. We probably get bounced in the division round as our run game gets one playoff win.

Going into 2025, assuming that we have let Mike play out the rest of his contract, along with Dak, we then bring in a new coach who is young and is similarly creative to Kyle Shanahan. However, it'd be someone who is also a physical disciplinarian type coach. We would have 3 first round picks. So, I use at least two of them to try to get a top draft pick and take the next QB of the Cowboys. Whoever is the best QB coming out of college, let the new coach choose him. Then, with likely the other 1st we'd have, get the best WR in the spot we'd have followed by a guard to likely replace Martin and, assuming we don't bring back Derrick Henry, draft a physical back or sign the next best available physical back. I think doing this, including getting an oline, would give the rookie all the tools that he needs to succeed immediately like CJ Stroud.

I think doing this is the quickest way to go from what we are doing now to being actual SB contenders. We would be physical, and we'd be able to have a creative team. One that can run the ball with great physicality, and one that can throw the ball effectively. There'd be a nice mix of offense that could be used, and a defence that can attack the QB and shut down the running game.

I appreciate your passion but the problem with the "rebuild" is the same people who built this team will build the next one. They've been building for 30 years.

You either get a mediocre team or a good team, but the good teams always have the same flaws and flop in the playoffs. No reason to think that will change.

Teams that truly rebuild bring in a new GM, set goals for him, then get out of the way and let him do his job - coaches, players, build it all. If they meet the goals then extend them. If they fail, fire them. But that isn't how it's done in Arlington and it won't be under the Jones family. "Rebuild" is just them tinkering with their toy, again.

Seems to be the case, though this rebuild that I've laid out keeps them relevant and gets us a team that can legitimately compete for a SB. Seems like a win win for me lol.

Nothing is going to change until this team changes ownership. The Jones have mismanaged this team for decades and as long as they are RACKING in BANK, the FANS are going to suffer for it.

Then, before long, they will run out of fans. It won't be immediate, but, soon, there will be a generation of football fans who want nothing to do with the Cowboys, even in the Dallas area. Once that happens, they'll either have to change course, relocate the team, or fold it.
