The "flex" absolutely worked for a while then over time and video tape teams figured out how to attack. Still good ol days IMO.Unfortunately everyone caught up to the flex defense by the 80s and Landry had a tough time parting ways with it. Even his own players pleaded with him to do away with it.
It was very effective during the 60s and 70s but by the 80s it wasn’t working against the young, innovative offensive minds.
