OU Clinches National Title with Loss to UF

Miami, Florida -- In a surprising twist, the Oklahoma Sooners clinched the national title despite losing to the Florida Gators 24-14 in the FedEx Orange Bowl on Thursday night.

When asked about the unexpected turn of events, BCS Director, Joe Fubar, replied, "We never claimed that the winner of the National Championship game would actually be awarded the BCS National Title. We only said that the eventual national champion would play in the national title game. The final decision still remains with the computers."

When asked how the computers could possibly rank two-loss Oklahoma over undefeated Utah, one-loss Texas (who defeated Oklahoma back in October), and one-loss Florida (who defeated Oklahoma on Thursday night), Fubar replied, "Although the teams' overall records and their head-to-head matchups are very important, these factors simply didn't outweigh other factors in the computer calculations.

"For instance, Florida lost to Ole Miss earlier in the season. Ole Miss beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. Texas Tech beat Texas. And finally, as any Sooner fan will tell you, Oklahoma soundly beat Texas Tech. Really, it all comes down to that Texas Tech victory. It was such a resounding win with so many style points that it outweighed every other consideration in the computer rankings."

According to many coaches, players, and experts, the BCS rankings system is completely ridiculous and entirely too convoluted. To these criticisms, Fubar replied, "Hey. Lighten up! You should be elated that a deserving team like Florida won the National Championship? What more could you possibly expect from a system that put one-loss OU team in the national title game over an undefeated Utah team and a one-loss Texas team that defeated OU earlier in the year."

Disclaimer: Yes, I wrote this. And no, it isn't shot at OU. It's merely a shot at the BCS system.;)

They just need to remove the C from the BCS and it would no longer be false advertising.:D

I'm all for a playoff but I will say this about the BCS in my view it is the stepping stone for playoffs to come about. Before the BCS came into play you would not have gotten the matchup of the #1 and #2 teams facing each others. Florida being the SEC champs would have played in the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma would be in the Orange Bowl. So while major college football is not yet where they should be in terms of crowing a champion I think it is further along than it was
