Hypothetical - Washington Football Team trade offer

No way Washington ever lets Young go.
probably not but what if they offer you one of their other DL studs & a pick? I would take my chances that i could improve my team so much that giving them a QB prospect would be ok.

Justin Fields is available at 10...the football team calls and they offer Chase Young for pick 10...do you say yes?

If you said no to that first offer..what if they said 19+ Young? Is that enough?

Obviously this is just a hypothetical..I don't even know if the ft would offer Young..but if I'm going to give them a franchise qb, I darn sure am going to take their best player if I'm even going to consider it at all

What do you say?

Yes...you're not getting a proven, young, all-pro talent like Young for the 10th pick

Of course,if the were offering that trade to us, then every team from 3-9 gets that offer too
And any team from 4 or 5 on might just take it.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount it.

What if Fields is the 2nd overall player on their board? I'd make that trade if I were them in a heartbeat

I don't discount it from Washington’s perspective at all.
But any team that thinks they already have their QB would take that offer....and many that don't as well, depending on how they rated the remaining QBs.

and in your scenario, if Washington had Fields as their 2nd best overall player, then they start making that trade offer to all the teams before us. One for would bite.

First offer: yes
Second offer: without a doubt
With both offers I am sending my private plane to pick Young up immediately but first I am sending in the trade request to confirm it and then dropping it off at the NFL offices in NY.

yes. three times. I would love the second offer much better.

I am asking for the farm from the deadskins
Sock it to the enemy.
BTW, potential franchise qb
First round qbs have a high bust rate.
Example rg3

Anytime I helped a division rival get a QB, there would be some hesitation. If you screwed up and gave them a 10 year all-pro at that position you’d never live it down... so yeah, I’d have some concern.

However, not enough to turn down Young (and certainly not enough to turn him down along with pick 19).

My thought process is sort of like this:

Fields may be good and he may not. If I felt about him like I do Lawrence and Wilson, I would not do it. Fields has potential but he could still miss IMO. So that is my first thought.

Secondly, unless Dallas is either picking Fields or trading the pick to another team who will take him, then Washington will probably just call the Giants and offer them a package, which they’d likely accept, so you’re probably not keeping Fields out of DC.

And finally, Young (+19) is wayyy better than just Surtain, so it would seriously help the Cowboys, which ultimately is what you’re trying to do in the draft.

Of course there are questions, like who else is available, and are there any other trade partners for Fields besides Washington. If anyone else can get close to their offer, I think you always go outside the division... and outside the conference if possible.

In the end, it would come down to how your franchise grades Fields and if you want to see him twice a year.

It is an interesting question.
Good analysis
No guarantees Fields will pan out

I’m not sure there’s any defensive player in the league worth more than a franchise QB
finding a franchise QB in the draft is a high risk proposition. 80% of the first rounders don't turnout anything special. Young is proven talent in the NFL and fits a huge need. with the 19th pick you get your Saftey or CB. so you address two positions of need with your first pick.

and if he turns into a franchise QB, then so be it. you have to beat good teams to be good. prove yourself and go win a championship. we have the offense. and young and CB go a long way into building a championship defense.

Is this a trick question (searching for hidden cameras)?

Yes and yes!

i know. i'd do it. just saying that even thought it won't happen, swapping young for a qb isn't a preposterous scenario for the foreskins

You mean the Commanders?

Not from us. The Bears are another story, could we pry Mack? Think that is more of a possibility then getting Chase.
The beauty of Young is you would still get years on his rookie deal.

I think it's a complicated and interesting question. I'm not sure both teams wouldn't say no to Young for 10 straight-up. The Cowboys probably couldn't turn down Young and 19.

This illustrates the extent to which the NFL has become a QB-driven league. I wouldn't trade Prescott for Young, for instance. No way.

There is a risk, in the scenario outlined, you hand Washington 15 years of great QB play. There is that risk.

Who says Fields is going to be great? I would say its 50/50 he is even good. You play many more teams than the Commanders every year. Its 100% worth doing. The goal should be to build a championship contender, not stop other teams from building one.
