I pride myself on understanding stats. This one baffles me. Does it go to strength of schedule vs Seattle?
I think it's because the Cowboys still have a game left with Wash and they swept the Giants.I pride myself on understanding stats. This one baffles me. Does it go to strength of schedule vs Seattle?
Washington and the Giants still can finish with a better record then us. It has something to do with strength of schedule concerning the Seahawks and Lions would be my guess.I think it's because the Cowboys still have a game left with Wash and they swept the Giants.
How does that matter. They can both be 10-6-1I think it's because the Cowboys still have a game left with Wash and they swept the Giants.
There are 3 wild card spots so even if that were to happen and we lose out, we have the tie-breaker over the Hawks and LionsHow does that matter. They can both be 10-6-1
Yes. So why should giants Washington matter at all?Washington and the Giants still can finish with a better record then us. It has something to do with strength of schedule concerning the Seahawks and Lions would be my guess.

They can both finish at better then the Cowboys at 10-6-1. The Cowboys need to win one more game to clinch 5th and avoid San Francisco.Yes. So why should giants Washington matter at all?
because of our conference record.
even losing our last 2 conference games...we still would make it in.
This applies to the Seahawks who cannot finish with a better conference record than Dallas. Detroit can finish at 8-4 in the conference. If Dallas loses out they would finish at 7-5. But Dallas beat Detroit head to head so Dallas wins the tie breaker. The Cowboys cannot tie the Giants and Washington unless the Cowboys finish with a tie game in their next 3 games. That would also guarantee them a playoff spot.
This came the closest to explaining it, but I still don’t know what anything to do with Wash-Giants could impact this.
Oh, I see your point. Good question. I think the answer is if Washington won and Washington, NY and Dallas wind up tied with Seattle and Detroit, at 10-6-1, Dallas would lose the division tiebreaker to Washington. Had Washington won they could finish with a division record of 3-2-1. Dallas could finish at 3-3. The tiebreaker rules start with divisions ties. Washington would eliminate NY and or Dallas in a tie breaker. Then Washington moves on to a tie breaker with Detroit and Seattle. Now Washington ca only finish with a 2-3-1 record in the division.
Of course this would be an incredibly unlikely scenario but it was possible. At this point, with Washington losing there is no circumstance where Washington wins a tie breaker over Dallas no matter what happens. Washington can pass Dallas in the standings by winning out, (NY can pass Dallas by winning 2 more games). Dallas can actually finish last in the division still. The need a win or tie to clinch 2nd place and the 5th seed.
Because that's what the media people said (despite it not making any sense).I pride myself on understanding stats. This one baffles me. Does it go to strength of schedule vs Seattle?
Nope. Detroit's loss is involved. They have lost to both Sea and Dallas and would be eliminated, leaving a 2-way tiebreaker between Dallas/Seattle. Dallas wins.Yeah, I think it has to do with if Det/Sea/Dal have a 3-way tie at 10-7. Then Detroit’s loss to Dallas isn’t involved and it goes to 3-way tiebreaker, which Det has played Was and Sea has played NYG, so that game has some kind of SoS impact
I can't explain it either but NFL.com has us clinching a spot as well.Because that's what the media people said (despite it not making any sense).
I've been saying this since yesterday before that game. It doesn't make sense that a game between these two teams with a tie would matter.
