Last night here in Tucson was the annual desert duel between the Arizona State Scum Devils and my Arizona Wildcats. First of all I got offered 4 tickets to the game and invited 3 guys who work for me to come. It had tailgate passes and all the soft drinks, popcorn, and hot dogs we could eat. The tickets got delivered to my office. I was out in the field.

Then the guy who offered them to me called to say the guy he got them from wanted them to go to students at the UA. Hey they're his tickets. He can decide what to do with them. So I had to tell 3 guys who had their hopes up that we were not knocking off early and weren't going to the game.

That sucked.

Not as bad as the Arizona Kicker did.

ASU took a late lead 20-14. With just over 2 minutes left Wildcats QB Nick Foles drove the Cats the length of the field and with 27 seconds left threaded a pass to a WR in the endzone. Tie game! The extra point probably wins it.

Alex Zendejas, the nephew of former Cowboys Kicker Luis and draft pick Max, lined up for the PAT.

Blocked!

Then our idiot Kickoff Kicker put the squib kick out of bounds giving ASU the ball at the 40.

We held. Overtime.

First OT both teams make short FGs.

Double Overtime.

ASU gets the ball first and pushes in for a rushing TD. PAT is good.

Arizona again comes back and matches the TD. They need the PAT to tie this time.

Blocked again!

Kickers flat out suck. Never doubt it. They just suck. I hate the sawed off, chain smoking, soccer loving morons.

surely if its blocked then the blockers weren't doing their job more than the guy who appreciates what part of the body is most suitable for ball sports :p:

Arizona was supposed to be better than this. You can't blame the kicker because the rest of the team decides not to show up.

if the kick is blocked, isn't it as much the blocking as the kicker's fault?

If you actually read about it, ASU did their homework and realized the kicker has a low trajectory. They knew of they could get a good push up the middle they had a good shot at blocking the kick. He should've been coached better to get more elevation on the ball.

That is certainly the case sometimes, but not here. These kicks were blocked at the line of scrimmage, which means the kicker simply did not get a high enough trajectory.

But this placekicker wasn't the only special teams player having trouble. In the 2nd quarter, AZ State kicked an 8 yard punt which was immediately followed by a 1 yard punt from AZ. No those are not typos and in each case the punter had no pressure on him or anything like that.

What I don't understand is the death threats he got after the game.

That is taking it was too seriously.

Another reason for Boise to never be considered for serious bid.

In the first OT, a 48 yard kick is not a short field goal. asu's kicker is not too shabby...as a PK that is.

And technically, if you rewatch the second missed PAT it hit the lineman in the back, it never even got over them. Bounced off one of their backs and still went forward.

He has actually been bad after his freshman year, ESPECIALLY this year. He won the Lou Groza award his freshman year and has been a shell of himself after that. He does have a heck of a leg though.

24/25 his freshman year

44/62 (70.9%) his soph, jr, sr years

71% doesn't seem that bad but he hasn't been very good in clutch situations at all. Point being, this year, Weber missed 2 XPs that would have beat Wisconsin & USC.

Because of this, I find sweet irony in that we beat our arch rival on 2 missed XPs! :D

Maybe you can't, but I sure as hell can. He sucks.

Don't try to reason with Hos when it comes to kickers... when you get on that subject, you're better off trying to reason with a drunken Scot...

And you undoubtedly know what THAT's like... hey, come to think of it, I wonder if Hos doesn't have some Scottish blood in him... :D

(FWIW, I'm descended from clan MacKenzie, on my mother's side)

Nope, that would be my dream vacation... visit Lunan Bay, just north of Aberdeen on the North Sea, the family's ancestral home... and of course, I'd want to play St. Andrews, Muirfield, Turnberry, Troon, Carnoustie, Gleneagles...

Let's see, did I leave any course out?? :D

I usually like your posts but the kicker hate thing has become predictable silly cliche (not just you , everyone).

That was blown way out of proportion. One moron left a message with the kickers parents. Would have been nice to see ESPN give the same coverage to 38k who came out and supported Brotz after he missed twice.

But yeah, that is a legitimate reason to keep the current system in place...
