I have an interview with your Dallas Cowboys

I applied for an internship with the Cowboys as a Event Services Intern at Cowboys Stadium. It will be a phone interview either Monday or Tuesday.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions. I have never done a phone interview and quite frankly have never been a fan of talking on the phone.

As for what zrinkill said, what I find is lowering your voice (meaning deeper, not quiet) helps give you more controlled and clean speech. It can also help curb any accent you may have. It also helps slow down your speech which is good too. You don't want to talk too fast.

Great advice above here but i would add this to it.

Be yourself. You present very positively and maturely on this site, beyond your years. Give someone a glimpse of that and they should be sold. I mean that sincerely.

Make sure that there are no distractions phone wise...like a barking dog, a crying child, a radio or TV on, etc. Also, as zrinkill suggested, prepare, prepare, prepare...

Also, if you can do anything research wise for an "Event Services" position do that too. Make sure that you know as much as you can about the job description that you are applying for.

Be confident, and be courteous, "Yes Sir/Mame, No Sir/Mame kind of thing.

And one other thing that I have done, I write a Business type letter thanking the interviewer for the opportunity for the interview. Mail it to the address on the application addressed to the interviewer/s. It's a small reminder for the interviewer.

Take notes during the interview, so have a pencil and paper at hand.

That's also good advice as Rynie just stated.

Think of some questions that you might want to ask. I'm sure that you have some, so write them down whether you use them or not.

First of all with a phone interview always be relaxed. One way to do that is conduct the interview while standing. You will be amazed at how simply standing up and walking around the room gives you a more relaxed feeling and better command of your senses.

As for questions, one that you should ask is "Why would this position be an advantage for me?"

This shows you are serious and have an inquisitive nature. Plus it puts the interviewer in the role of trying to sell YOU on the position. By doing this you kind of put the onus on them and gives you an opportunity to listen to more aspects of the position and also might spur your thinking as to what other questions might be wise to ask.

Thank them for talking to you, ask them what they'd like to know, then answer their questions... be relaxed, be who you are... don't be afraid to let your youthful enthusiasm show...

The relaxed part is the most important, I've always thought... that makes you come across as confident in an interview (even when you might not be)...

I promise you, that is a HUGE thing to do during an interview. A lot of people simply say "thanks for the time" or something simple at the end of the interview, but saying something along the lines of "I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity, this has been a great experience", or something a little bit more specific like that goes a long way. It shows you really are interested and glad to have a shot at the interview. It paints you in a very pleasant and eager light, which is huge when setting up interviews. I interview 3-4 people a week at my job, and knowing a person is grateful for the interview goes a long way. It is refreshing to see somebody so eager to get their foot in the door, it makes you kind of root for them to do well, so to speak.
