I was scared about starting Pettiti at RT, but after watching Calico's videos I was shocked. He got caught off guard with a spin move and wiffed on a pulling play. Although neither play hurt us and he mauled their linemen on run plays. We found one guys and I think that why Tucker never saw the field. We helped him some with Capbell and JJ chipping, but for the most part he held it down.

of course that what you exoect from a rookie, instant sucess:D:D:D

No really my pick to start the season at RT, i know that BP loved this kid and he is doing all he can to make sure this guy succeds you bet he will.

Was he responsible for two sacks? Not that I'm dissing him. I didn't see the game. Who was responsible for the other sacks. We need this line to come together fast to keep Bledsoe from getting killed. Bledsoe was great, but we have to cut down on the sacks. I am hoping this offensive line will get much better as the season goes on.
Plus didn't he have a few false starts? First game, but gotta see the whole picture. He did some good and some bad. Bad can be corrected.

Your right Petiti had a very solid game especially after you realize it was his first pro game as well as his first game at right tackle. You know he looked the same as he did in those college highlight clips, he could pretty much control his man.

He made a minor mistake here and there but as you said other than the penalties they didn't effect the game. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition but in all likely hood he will struggle at times just as most rookies do. But the talent is there and it certainly appears we have finally found our right tackle of the future.

On a side note I watched Al Johnson very close and he had a very solid game as well. If this line stays healthy they could be hard to handle by play-off time..........

I didn't see the sacks he gave up. I know Flo was responsible for one, the other three I can't remember off hand from Calis videos. I'll go back and looks. Oh yeah Polite was responsible for the other one I can remember.

Well from the video, I only saw three sacks and here are the guys that were responsible for them:

1. Flo ( whiffed and held on the play)
2. Polite ( missed blitz pick up.
3. JJ (Bledsoe held it too long)
4. ?

Even if he did give up 1, thats not bad for a rookie.

The other was on both Rivera and Petiti, but it was also when the roughing the passer was called so it didn't hurt the drive.

Hey Thanks, maybe the poster the day after the game was wrong. Any evaluation of the whole line? I had heard they had some struggles. Maybe its negativity around here.
I have heard both that Al Johnson played well and played bad.
Marco was terrible.
What gives? Man I hate it when I can't see the game. I was forced to watch the Giants.
NFL.com lists the San Diego sack total at 4.

Thats not included in sack totals because of the penalty. Its like no play haapened. They didn't get credit for that sack.

As a whole it was average. The run blocking was good when you take into account that JJ had 93 yards against a very good run defense.

I was very happy for Petitti last Sunday. Imagine how well he will be playing in a month from now, two months from now and so on. Very bright future.

I've got news for you bud that's exactly how they called it. The ball was originally snapped at the 20 yard line, Bledsoe was hit in the head at the 10 yard line and the first down was placed at the 25 yard line.

So they obviously counted the sack then marked off the 15 yard penalty placing the ball at the 25......

Your right! I just watched it again. I still wouldn't consider that Pettiti's fault. Rivera got blown up by Castillo and Phillips was an afterthought. CAstillo got there first which is on Rivera IMO. Pettiti did weel that play.

Yeah it was mostly Rivera his man is the player who hit Drew in the head but it was Petiti's man which tackled and brought Bledsoe down. So I would imagine both would have been scored with a blown assignment by the coaches........

Usually a guard doesnn't get blown up that much on pass plays. Rivera is so far in our backfield that Phillips had a option to go left or right. The right option is usually taken away by the congestion of the OG and DL. I mean Rivera was so far in the backfield it looked like Pettiti was doing one of those one on one practice drills.
