for the sake of this team, these coaches, and us fans, i hope that this week:

we beat detroit
philly loses to atlanta

we face philly in the wild card at home and beat them. that would show us what this team is really made of.

i dont even want to think about having to play philly again this year...

The best thing, and more likely scenario for this team would be to barely win in Detroit while Philly beats Atlanta. Then we get schooled by whoever plays us in the playoffs.

That's probably the only scenario, other than losing to Detroit and in the playoffs, that will get Jerry to change the makeup of our coaching staff, which is the only thing holding us back from being able to compete on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

Your scenario likely brings back Zimmer and Parcells and we'd lose the week after our Philly victory any way. This team does not have SB caliber coaching and that's where the problems start. Until that's addressed, we could have the exact same players as Philly and New Orleans and not represent like they are.

We know what the team is made of, and its not the problem.

I think Philly will continue to dominate us, and I wouldn't be surprised if they ride that OL and DL deep into the playoffs.

That said, I don't really care what the other teams do, but I'd like to see us dominate the Lions in order to go into the playoffs with a little "fake" confidence. It would be fake confidence because it is the Lions, but fake confidence is better than none.

Just winning the game, especially a close game, against the Lions won't do much for the psyche of our team or fans.

The defense needs to find some heart and guts this week...that doesn't mean they have to hold the Lions to a low point total, but it does mean they need to be flying around and hitting people and giving effort, playing like their hair is on fire...anything less will only solidify my opinion that they are a bunch of punks.

The offense needs to play wide open, since winning the game big is more important to us than just winning...we need to develop some rhythm, eat up some large chunks, score points, and then grind it out at the end and give next week's DC something to think about.

This is a critical game...and not because of who we'll play next week or which seed we become...we need it in here <head> and in here <chest>.

Wholesale changes are not needed IMO, Jerry knows he has the talent on defense, it is just a matter of getting them to play to their potential. He said it a few times in the interview yesterday.

I would be surprised if Zimmer is not the target in the changes, I really would!

We need better assistant coaches - a true Oline coach would be nice too.

Only thing that matters to me at this stage is that we start playing better than we have as of late. Dallas had their chances at getting the bye then getting at least 1 home game in the playoffs and we failed to capitalize on that. I do think this team is capable of playing much better but as BP said we will find out a lot about this team and how people view them as a team. Who or where we play does not matter to me, how we come out and play is my only concern.

Oh yeah and what gives you the slightest belief we would beat them? Nothing! Wishful thinking, come on get real. I bet you think it will be the first of 4 victories in a row too hu? Yeah, keep dreaming.

We can't face Philly under any senario. They as we have 9 wins and can't fall to the 6th seed. The 6th seed will be an 8-8 club, NYG, ATL or GB.

How could you not want to play the eagles again. I want revenge! Or at least a shot at it.

Here's our playoff path.
In Seattle and if when we win, we get a trip to Chicago.

I honestly believe we have a real good shot to win both those games.

Seattle has lost three in a row and are playing worse than us. I see this as a good matchup for us. They have an average OL and run a fairly balanced attack. They're passing game is just OK, they're running game is better. They need to run the ball effectively to make their passing game and offense as a whole go.
This offense plays into the strength of our defense. We should do well against them.
Thier defense is OK. Not bad, they have some play makers and can hurt us.
It's just that there is nothing special about it. It's the kind of defense that Romo has killed this year.

Chicago is a fraud.
And now they are playing without thier best defensive player, DT Thommie Harris, probably the best at his position right now.
This defense allowed 12.5 points over the first 12 games with Harris. Over those 12 games they had 2 shutouts, held four teams to 10 or less and only Miami managed to crack 30 points. They were without a doubt the best defense in football.
In the three games played without Harris they gave up 27,31 and 21 points, to the Rams, Bucs and Det. Considering the level of competition, that is not good. It's about as poor as we've played these last three weeks.

Thier offense, even more than Seattle relies on the ground game. Grossman is no Hasselbach. Like Seattle their offensive srtenght plays into ours.

Obviously we'd like to have won the division, we'd like to be playing better.
But this isn't a bad consilation prize. Maybe we can get hot and make it to the NFC Championship Game and get a little pay back on NO or Phi.

philly will lose don't you remember when the saints came in and blew us out and the next week they only scored 10 points against the deadskins the same thing will happen to the eagles they think they are unstoppable but atlanta will get their revenge this weekend from the loss to carolina i don't see atlanta losing three in a row and the nfc east title will be ours after we demolish the lions

That is, unless Philly gets beat by the 6th seed, likely the Giants. They split the two games this year and Philly barely got by them two weeks ago (needed a last minute interception in the end zone).

I believe the Giants can beat Philly. So could Carolina if Delhomme comes back, or the Rams with the way they run the ball. The Packers would have no hope.

At any rate, if the 6th seed upsets Philly, then we'd be going to New Orleans.

At this point, I'd rather be the 5th seed and go to Seattle than the 3rd seed and face the Giants at home. Now, if the Packers somehow claim that 6th seed, it's a whole different story.

These scenario's are giving me a headache:banghead:Lets just beat Detroit and beat who ever else steps up.

If we got the losing out of the way(for the rest of the (season/playoffs/SB) against the Lions then I would be happy... meaning we wouldnt lose again until NEXT season ;)

They shouldn't be afraid of playing anyone, when you reach that stage, they might as well go home for the year. They need to think in terms of kicking butt. The coaching staff needs to think in terms "We're not defending anything, we're attacking all the time. We're going to grab the opponent by the nose and kick in the butt. We're going to kick the living hell out of him all the time and we're going to use their bodies to wipe the mud off of our cleats" Peace out

i agree dooms, that is all i am asking for as well.

i posted this because after being dominated by philly in both games this season, the only way we beat them is if we play very well. and that is what i am hoping to see.

i cant believe that all these players with first round grades are this bad collectively, that we did such a poor job of talent evaluation. i have to believe that coaching and scheme are playing a significant role and that is why i am hopeful that it can be fixed.
