My son's friends have been coming over the house and they love trash talking. ...as do I btw, lol. But I keep losing because I don't have time for video games anymore. Plus, I always use the Cowboys and their rating is not the greatest. I'm just relearning this after not playing for 10 years or so. Which specific plays do you like? What are your Go Tos? What are the tips and tricks you use when you play with the Cowboys?

Thanks in advance! Help this dad shut up the youngins'!

Good luck. I know what it is like gaming with kids nowadays.

I was a devout Madden purchaser annually for decades until about four years ago. Then the first edition of Star Wars Battlefront too came out and I have not really played anything else since.

My preferred method of playing Madden was choosing each team's base playbook and audibling into whatever blocking assignments to help offset the formations dedicated by the defense. Do not know if that helps but it is how I played before shelving it.

Madden you should still be able to dominate at or at least stay competitive. Now, First Person Shooters (FPS), that ability goes down as you age lol. Your response time will slow down to the point that you will be a day late and a dollar short against those kids.

I gave up Madden probably 20 years ago. I just lost interest.

HB dive out of single back and shotgun & I/STrong HB stretch...put Pollard in sometimes. Alot of people who play as the cowboys run him over Zeke just to get to the edge.

You can flip the plays using the analog stick while under center.

Passing throw corner and crossing routes.

Shotgun formation with Zeke and Pollard as your HBs are good check downs and easier to read the D in passing to get you going.

Hold possession catch (think it's sq for PS) to make secure catches in the corners but hold (x RAC) for crossing if they have a Defender tailing them.

Hope you can shut them up!:D

Read option out of the shotgun works too, unless they patched that. CPU defenders will hesitate on the option, so unless he plays as a very good DT to blow up the play then you should get a consistent yardage play out of it.

I feel medium to deep routes that go across the middle are effective*. Curl routes too depending on his coverages.
Defensively, I don't blitz a lot. Gotta see what they like to run in terms of passing/run game. But with the Cowboys I find Cover 3/man can work but it's a game by game option. I feel cover 2 is suicide defensively, unless you are good at safety play/lurking.

There's a shotgun formation where you have 3 WR on one side running varying IN routes and the TE runs a post route to the sideline. Very effective against any coverage IMO. In man, one corner will lag, and in zone, there will be a receiver at a depth that won't have a defender close to him. It does take time to develop, so, may have to audible to keep Zeke as a blocker if they are blitz happy. Sub Jarwin for Witten for that formation due to speed.

Oh, if you want to be really good on defense, you have to play A LOT and learn to read the offense so you can ensure you're in a defensive set that is suited to the offensive set they are running. (your set defensive audibles are a big part of that)

Most people who play only have 1 or 2 options per set they use too. (or used to) The really good players have 3-4 options per set depending on their defensive reads.

I'm not all that but in the top 12% tile of ps4 users (255 online wins).

A) Run the ball a lot. Zeke is very tough late in the game. Use Pollard every so often and he will surprise you but do not feature.

B) Practice throwing the out and bench routes to both sides of the field. It's timing and Dak hums it usually.

The I-formation Texas play is a go to. If the out or curl aren't there flip it to Jamize on the angle RB route. He fumbles alot so try to get him in space.

Also: send Cooper on 9 route in 2 WR sets. if you see any press coverage Vs non-elite CB's. 3 steps and loft it. Watch for the first hint of advantage and let it go.

C) Big Nickel is my favorite D. I'm not good enough to control a S effectively so I focus on the DL controls.

Good luck!
