Big game for our first round pick, he'll show up and show out. I've been hard on him, but against this team, he will show us now and going forward why we drafted him!! Let's go, please give me your thoughts

No he won’t, at least not statistically and I doubt he gets enough reps to have a big game from a “control the LOS” or “clog the middle” perspective. And there is nothing wrong with this. He just won’t get the opportunity and doesn't play a “big game” type position. Hopefully his time will come but it is very u likely to be today.

I would give him another half dozen games before he begins to show something. Defensive tackle is a difficult position to dominate as a rookie, especially considering his role.
I don't think it's that hard I'm sorry it's not like he's a WR learning the offense or something sheesh

You've got a better chance at hitting the Powerball than mazi does of having a big game.

Hard to say, Coogledukes.

However, what he has to learn to do is much harder than a WR learning the O. He has to retrain his instincts, which is very very tough. He's been playing a certain way his entire football career. Prolly played Pop Warner, so like 10-15 years. And suddenly, what he's been doing in wrong. So, he has to develop instincts, he has to get to where he's playing correctly w/o having to think about it.

At present, he is slow off the snap. Why? Mazi has a nice first step. However, he has to think about what to do, which takes away that first step quickness. It will take a bit yet for him to get to the point where it's automatic. We will not know what type player he is until that happens.

When will that happen? Now that is hard to say. Some learn in TC, some take just a few games, some take much longer. So, we simply won't know until it happens.

Mazi was a very raw talent coming in. If our org. didn't know that, then they are dumb indeed.

I don't know what to say, respect all you said my dear friend. I just don't see with all the changes to camp and practices there should be much more time for learning and fine tuning on things. Are the coaches naive and don't realize he has this issue, have they drilled it on him daily at practice, if so why not much change?

Remember I'm not saying be Donald, I just want an impression!!

I think everyone has there own idea of what a "big game" means.
What would that look like from your definition?

I'd call it a big game for him if he gets ~15 snaps or so, grabs SF's offensive lineman so they can't get to the backers and mantains the line of scrimmage. So in mind he could have all doughnuts in the box score and still have a big game.

Mazi is a guy who is slow off the ball and slow to read, and Shanahan moves offensive linemen more than any coach in the league. It's a bad matchup for him.

His ideal situation right now is just going fire-on-fire with a smaller center and making it a Greco wrestling match. Shanahan rarely makes his run concepts that simple.

The niner center is questionable with a concussion I think, could be a night to beat up the backup.

Good post. I think the team knew he would need reps and time, the fans, many expect HOF play from before first OTA showing.

He probably could if we play him. He could at least have a big game stopping the run.
