Over Garrett's last two seasons, Miami has ranked 16th and 13th in the league in passing, which is only a modest improvement from their 21st ranking before he got there. Certainly nothing that had anybody in the league talking. For a guy whose only job is to handle the QB situation, we all know that thing was in shambles and is what probably caused Saban to bounce back to the college ranks. Now we're trying to give him the responsibility of running an entire offense or even an entire team?

Jerry has found a keeper in his drug dealer for sure. That guy needs to get a contract extension right now.

As for Garrett...I know the entire Cowboy nation is all warm and fuzzy to him because we won that Thanksgiving game with him years ago, but coaching the entire team is a little too much of a gift to give him for that. I'm totally down to chip in on a nice dinner at Don Pablos or maybe even get him a nice bottle of cognac for his time with Dallas, but yall definitely need to calm down about giving him a position other than QB coach. Heck, Doug Williams should be owner, GM, and HC of the Commanders if the same logic were used. He came in and won a Super Bowl. That's even crazier than a Thanksgiving game.

Was Garrett the OC who designed the schemes?

Was Garrett the guy calling the plays?

I don't see your point.

Lets not forget Saban was the one to bring in the broke down Culpepper and the rediculously crappy Harrington, but some how, this is all Garretts fault.

Saban wanted to take Garrett with him to Alabama as an OC, he turned him down, he also turned down the Cleveland OC possition, Parcells had a one on one talk with him today, this is not just Jerry.

Could have easily said the same about Sean Payton. Was he that bad in Dallas or did the HC not allow him to be creative? I think there is something to this new younger generation of coaches. They can relate to the players.

After his second suspension he still pined for Ricky when he was in Canada. Still after Ricky was injured. odd fixation, especially when he had that blue chipper running back from Auburn.
That had to be unsettling for the team.

Garrett did well, despite the team's peculiarities.

I'm not sure that overall passing yardage ranking of the offense is the best way to judge a QB coach.

Well what do you judge them by then? QB ranking? Cause obviously their QBs were amongst the lower-middle to bottom of the league throughout Garrett's two years.

The whole point is that we're pushing it here with Garrett right now. People are going out of their way to convince themselves it's going to work out, rather than questioning the move in any sort of way. I'm all for change, but lets change to somebody who is proven a little more so that we're not gambling here. No sense in gambling. There really are some quality names left out there.

You judge them on their knowledge of the game and potential ability to orchestrate an NFL offense.

Tony Romo, imo, is better than Frerotte, a broken down Culpepper,Harrington or Cleo Lemon. Finishing 16th and 13th with those cast of characters is pretty impressive.

You base it on the coach...

Sean Payton coming out of New York was a reject... Now you wanna tell me that he just all of a sudden got good?

Just because your a good coach doesnt mean your players are going to be able to show you that on the field.

The Raiders are a team that could have a staff of some of the best coaches ever and the team that they ran out on the field was still going to suck for obvious reasons.

A coordinator maybe.

You don't give a guy one of the 32 top positions in the NFL based on 'potential.' You need a track record that consists of more than improving Joey Harrington's QB rating by 5 points.

I think everyone agrees it would be pretty stupid to give this guy the Head gig right now.

Love the idea for him as a OC but a Head coach? Come on not even Jerry is dumb enough to do that.

Right on Catch as surely as you hammered that Parcells was going to stay right????

If you combined the football knowledge of all Cowboy fans in the universe and the dedicated or obssessed fans in the Cowboy forums or boards we still wouldn't match the knowledge of any key person in the Cowboys organization let alone pro football league in general.

If Garrett is more than an OC candidate I am sure their are some good strong reasons for it. Jones is not looking at bargain basementing the position or wishfully thinking. This is not a team with over the top mid 90s talent that may make the owner overconfident to the point that any coach will do.

Sean Payton wanted Garrett too, but was also turned down
