I Was Wrong Heading into the Bills Game, But it Taught Me Something

Someone was saying, whoever wins the running game wins the game. I suspected it would come down to passing, but indeed it was the running game.

That taught me to be ready to adjust, and prepare to adjust.

As Mike says, just like anything else, you have to prepare for the unexpected. Critiquing your weaknesses is crucial to success. Look at how a team would try to beat you, especially with your best run defender out: they run and run a lot.

We're still not shored up in the middle of the dline. I knew we'd miss Hankins. But we really missed him this last game.

We also need to prepare Dak for when teams show him one look presnap and one post snap. We should also implement some silent count plays to catch the defense doing that. And now allow them to switch looks like that.

Any given Sunday, as they say.

Anyway, I had a few more thoughts but accidentally published the post..so I'll end with that and chime in with the rest later.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make them ready to adjust. What a poor display by both sides of the ball.

This team gets too giddy, confident and arrogant when it wins a big game, like against the Eagles.
They should know this better than anyone that the season is a grind and really doesn't begin until the playoffs.
Stop talking like beating the Eagles was like winning the Super Bowl. Focus on the next game, the next team, and be prepared and ready to win.

Buffalo is a good team. And a tough place to play, especially with the refs in their pockets.

Add the mistakes the staff made on the fumble recovery, and it's not an easy game to win.

Penalties, man. That's #1. We made some plays in all three phases of the game and they were erased by penalties. The game could've gone a different way very easily if we'd avoided some of the foolery. It might've been close at HT and then we could run the ball more. But the way things went we had to pass... Without Zack Martin.

I hope we can shake this loss off and make our adjustments this week for Miami because they are going to try to do the same thing. We have to be able to stop the run OR we need to get up a couple TDs and put Miami in the situation where they are passing a lot to catch up. That is where this Defense has excelled all year. We get behind and we get ourselves in trouble. In my opinion this hasn't changed all year we struggle with the run. I hope we can fix that and quickly.

Another problem was going for a long ball on 3rd and short and not designing plays to the same side Dak is rolling out.

On one play, he rolled out, then cut back where the defenders were Another issue is not having the LB depth and personnel to stop the run.

We need a guy like Jack Campbell in Detroit.

If we hadn't got any of the 3 personal fouls, blocked the punt, challenged the fumble and got the ball there, we STILL wouldn't have won that game. They were completely and utterly detroyed yesterday.

Even with Hankins Buffalo scores at least 21 points.

The Dallas offense wasn't scoring 21 points yesterday. So it would have made no difference.

Yes the Dallas defense got run over yesterday, but those are the days the offense has to show up. Win a shootout.

This late in the season there is no fixing the run defense. In the playoffs the offense has to show up every game. That's where Dallas is.

This really underscores the importance of getting an early lead.

Then the defense can have success with the pass rush
The offense can play the full field, and wind the clock to give the defense more of a rest.

I also find it very telling that 10 Cowboys players had a stomach bug. If it weren't for that fact, this loss would be more depressing. With a return to health, this team can look like what we've seen in recent weeks.

We won't be a favorite against many elite teams going forward, and that's ok!

Dak is horrible at reading zone type defenses with both high safeties. Hank went down last season and we sucked at stopping the run. Obviously the front office doesn't watch our teams football games. You draft a Taco defensive tackle and know Hank won't last the whole season. Our front office is no help to this team. I'd say they are pretty worthless at anything they do football related.
