If Jerry asked, here's what I would do

Jerry showed up at a bar, plopped down next to me and got lit on JW Blue, turned to me and asked what I would do if I were in charge of the Cowboys:

- Fire McCarthy

- Trade Dak. His contract isn't bad for a team acquiring him. Eat the cap hit.

- Hire Vrabel (I am operating under the assumption Jerry ain't giving up control. Of course I'd tell him to hire Harbaugh first). This team needs a culture change in the locker room and Vrabel might be it.

- Find the best young OC/QB coach you can find to work the Lance, who will be your starter in 2024.

- Start stockpiling picks from a Dak trade and possibly some others. For the right price, even Lamb or Parsons would be expendable.

- If a QB presents itself in this draft (like say a Bo Nix is sitting there and you like him), then take one. But I wouldn't go chasing a QB in this draft.

- The next two years will likely suck unless Lance is somehow rehabbed. But that's OK. Because if you do it right, Year 3 should find you ready to progress with either a rehabbed Lance or a young QB you picked in either of the next two drafts.

I concur with mostly everything except for Vrabel being hired.

Prefer Jim Harbaugh. Second choice would be Bill Belichick.

80 percent chance you don’t win more than 15 games total the next three years with this approach

Not going to happen and it shouldn’t

I would be ok moving dak (he would have to agree) but you have to get a QB in here that can win games now

You have to fix the running game and run d

You have to win now

99% chance if you keep McCarthy and Dak you won't have any real playoff success.

Your approach of just plugging holes has been what we've done for 10+ years now and guess what?

We've done squat. When will some of you ever learn?

I would tell Daks agent to seek a trade. Doubt any team would pull the trigger but you never know. But also I'm willing to trade any player on this team.

Do not extend Dak. Tell him and his agent they can seek a trade, if they agree to it (because of the no trade clause).
That he could possibly be a June 1st cut. And for the leverage, they will not designate him that until the last possible moment (whenever that is).

So possible teams would be limited who he may go to.

Best thing to do is to take the cap hit now. Because if extended to save cap space now, only means 5 years of the same results, and will be in the exact same cap hit situation 5 years from now.

It is so easy and simple for us to see it. So why can't these supposed football experts see it.

I think people are underestimating his value in the open market.

He has a reasonable contract that some team that feels they are a QB away might make a move for.

I mean you aren't going to net 3 #1 picks. But you might get a little bit of value.

As a known Dak supporter...i wouldn't be opposed to trading him. The caveat being you get him to agree to the trade because of the NTC but also that you get a haul for him. That can jumpstart a major overhaul. His contract is a dream for a team trading for him, you redo it. For us it would be just 2 million more of a hit to the 59 mill it currently is. Not my preferred option as I am all for a championship as soon as possible...this doesn't get us there next year, which is my goal.

The other reason I am ok with this is because I do like Trey Lance's potential....

Had an argument just yesterday about just that. I think you get a 1/2 easily. IMO.

What you're proposing is to go w/ the status quo. You do realize that, right? It isn't working.

This is where the Dak hate really throws a wrench in the spokes, huh?

I promise you...you get a haul for Dak Prescott.

The rest of the league doesn't have an incoherent hate of the player, believe it or not.
